It looked like the South Jersey, Group 2 boys' soccer championship was Cinnaminson's for the taking.

The Pirates had the better chances, dominated possession for much of the game and assailed West Deptford's defense again and again.

They even had the goals to go with it, taking the lead twice in the second half—first on Kevin Sotell's deft shot past sprawling Eagles keeper Brendan Gill, then on a penalty kick from Chris Weist after a foul in the box.

But West Deptford had an answer every time.

The Eagles came back to tie the game with seconds left in regulation, when Dan Devine smashed in a shot from a scrum in front of the net, sending the game to overtime and ultimately penalty kicks.

It's there where Cinnaminson unraveled, scoring just once, as Gill made a pair of saves and West Deptford's strikers were perfect to take the 2-2 (4-1) victory and the South Jersey title.

The loss brought an end to the Pirates' upset run through the playoffs—they went on the road and defeated No. 2 Woodstown handily, 5-0, and hung a 3-0 victory on No. 3 Middle Township to reach the title game, where they were trying to win their first South Jersey title since 2007.
