Cinnaminson Fire Budget Passes

Two incumbents were returned to their seats as fire commissioners, as voters also OK'd a $3.7 million budget.

With just a fraction of registered voters turning out, Cinnaminson's fire budget easily passed Saturday, 119-45.

Two incumbent commissioners, Roger Butler and Frank Ellison Jr., ran unopposed and were re-elected to three-year terms.

The total Cinnaminson Fire District budget for 2013 is $3,748,628. Of that, $2,741,234 will be raised by taxation. The remaining funds are from budget surplus, grants and more.

This was the fifth year in a row the fire district presented a budget to voters with no tax increase. The department has a detailed breakdown of the 2013 budget on its website.

Cinnaminson has more than 8,600 registered voters; fire districts elections, always held on the third Saturday in February, typically draw very few voters to the polls. This year's turnout was less than 2 percent.

Cindy, I was not aware that there were not many in Cinnaminson that did not appreciate the services of our fire department. I want to make it clear I am sure they are good people even though I disagree with their finances.
I do not want to be accused as being insensitive to other government employees: I also appreciate all the township units including the police, library, schools (I attended 4 years there), sewer, and trash etc. I am sure they are good people.

John, did you get out and vote this past Saturday? If not do everyone in town a favor and shut the heck up please. How much of your negativity can you impose on people? Life is really not that bad.
Your family must think you are a joy to be around.

John, are you just blatantly ignoring this sentence from the story?
"This was the fifth year in a row the fire district presented a budget to voters with no tax increase."

@phil, no I look at the tax bill that comes in the mail and from WHAT I READ there was a 1 cent raise in the fire district assessment, sorry but I can read a tax statement and I also know that our taxes are chewed up by 60% for OUR SCHOOLS, next time U do some research and read the FINE PRINT OK, they will print anything to get it passed

John, I've done research and I'm sick and tired of you posting the same stuff over and over. You've reached the "boy who cried wolf" stage. The levy has remained the same. As has the levy of the municipal tax as has the levy of the county (which has gone down). You're right, taxes have increased, the levy anyways, from the school district. When comparing budgets from year to year, one needs to go against the levy. Because of all the property assessment appeals, each budget calculates its rate by taking the levy and dividing out by the assessed values. Unfortunately, the rates are adjusted each year because of differences in assessed values. Our wonderful governor and all his "caps" go against the levy, not tax rate so any entity can claim the "no tax increase" when in reality that may not be the case. Some see taxes go up, some down, some the same. You're complaint against the fire district and you put a stat there for the schools. How much of the tax bill does the Fire District budget take up?

John,
If the taxes in this town, county or state are that much of a burden, why then do you continue to stay and pay taxes here? I am baffled. There are many states that have much lower tax rates and along with that much lower services. I am not saying what this town has is perfect, they are far from that, but I live each day with the fact that I am going to pay more to someone somewhere. Do I like it? Hell no. But just like I need to put gas in my car to get to work, it is a fact of life, even though I know our politicians are getting richer for higher gas prices. Why do you think they do nothing about OPEC? Too much money for their own personal coffers, not ours.
