Harvest Diner Closing Sunday

The owners of a Mount Laurel diner are slated to take over and reopen this spring.

Harvest Diner in Cinnaminson will close its doors this Sunday after 19 years in business.

However, the diner is slated to reopen in the spring with a new menu, a new look and new owners.

Stella Savva, owner of Harvest Diner since 1994, told Cinnaminson Patch Thursday it was “the right time” to close.

“We are sad we are leaving now,” Savva said. “It’s our home away from home. It was something we needed to do.”

Savva did not elaborate more on the reason for closing.

However the owners of Sage Diner, the popular Route 73 diner in Mount Laurel, are set to take over.

“It’s going to be pretty spectacular,” said Sage manager Bobby Roustas.

The Roustas family has owned Sage for 21 years. Roustas said the deal is not final yet, but plans are to start renovations this Monday.

“We’re going to redo the inside, the outside, everything,” Roustas said.

The staff of Harvest will be offered their jobs back once renovation is complete and the diner reopens.

“We are trying to help everybody,” Roustas said.

Thanks for the link, Frank - enjoyed the article immensely. MRF is right - a lot of funny stories, inside jokes and fond memories in those walls. I'm sure the Sage owners are nice people and will have a nice diner, but it will be different from the place we look back on through a nostalgic haze, and we'll miss it. (Lighten up Bruce and tom s!)

It was not a true eulogy if you read the article...it just talks about the great place it has been for customers and employes. I'm sure the new owners are capable of making great food...they've been successful at the SAGE for longer than the Savva's have been in business!

Best wishes to the Savva family. We always had a great meal and great service at the Harvest Diner. I'll miss the Spanakopita! We've been ordering it as an additional side dish at Christmas and Easter.

Cinnaminson Community Chorus always met there after the concerts to talk about how we did and eat great food. I will miss that especially. How many 24 hour diners do we have between Pennsauken and Cinnaminson?

I'll never forget the day, a few years ago, when the Internal Revenue service came in and locked the place up. All of us customers were asked to finish up and leave. There was also some issue with back real estate taxes as well. I'm sure the lawsuit they lost didn't help either. Let's hope the new owners take the diner in a legitimate direction.

Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone. I am (soon to be was) a waitress at the Harvest.
To address the comment about the Sage being successful longer than the Harvest has been in business, the original Harvest in New York has been there for over 30 years, and is still in business. This was their second location. I'm not doubting the Sage's success, I just want to make sure no one sees the Harvest as a failure.
I will miss all my co-workers, customers, and most of all The Savva Family. They truly treated us like one of their own. I couldn't have dreamed of a better 19 years.

John trust me if everyone felt like you did they wouldnt be closing. Nobody closes a busy restaurant if your making money. And if that was the case they would say they were retiring.

I know the owners of the Sage Diner and have full confidence that they will do an excellent job serving the residents of Cinnaminson.

My family loves the Harvest Diner and we're sad to see the current owners move on. As for the staff, I hope to see them when the re-modeled restaurant opens because they're some of the best people around! My daughters and I have shared many laughs over dinner at our favorite table (the booth just beyond the coat room)! Hubby and I have stopped in for a meal late in the evening or just desert after a movie. Were always welcomed warmly and served delicious food by friendly servers. We wish Stella and her family well!

Wendy-
I will truly miss all the Savva family and the employees. They were kind and thoughtful and willing to please. I will also miss all the wonderful people I have
talked with and become friends with. When my husband was alive it was his
favorite place and always good for a kind word and good food. I wish them all
the best and thank you for many years.

Any news as to whether or not the new owners will keep it open 24 hours? It was a great place to take the kids late at night after school dances, football games, and other events.

Best wishes to the Savva family. It has always been a great diner, great service and great food all at a very reasonable price. Hoping the staff is all offered a job with the new diner. Sage is a great diner too, although not as reasonablely priced. I do hope they have some items that Harvest had on their menu.
(i.e. Low Carb sizzling chicken platter, Chicken Matzo Ball soup, Capt. Breakfast, Veal Marsala, Mac & Cheese, Stewed Tomatos, Cheescake, Canolas etc., etc....)

Cinnaminson is very fortunate to have the the Roustas Family in their backyard. They run a great business in Mt Laurel and will expand their horizon in Cinnaminson. I wish them lots of success and happiness in their new endevour.

Very upset to hear this news. I visited the Sage a couple of weeks ago for breakfast after not having been there in a while. Everything seems to have gotten more expensive, but worse yet it's now a la carte. They said they have a great new chef, so I'm guessing that's how they pay his salary. If the Harvest is turned into the same style of place, I'll be checking another off my list. I'm sure the food is still good, but in my opinion that's just not the way a Jersey diner is supposed to be.
