UPDATED: Irene Leaves Town—But Leaves Her Mark
Road closures, flooding and power outages reported in town.
The area of the township around Extension Park is still without power this morning, and has been since last night, according to some neighbors there.
Ivrie Myhre, Patch photographer, commented on our open forum article, saying their power was out on Cuthbert at midnight, and their basement is flooding.
"All the areas that normally flood are flooded," said Lt. Tim Young of the Cinnaminson Police Department. "Chances are, when high tide comes this afternoon around 1 p.m., it's going to be even worse."
A house fire was reported in the Extension Park area because of candles lit, Young said, so residents are urged not to use candles
"We're still assessing the situations," Young said.
Erlington Drive, near Parry, was closed last night due to flooding. The bridge crossing Devon Road near Erlington is closed to due traffic. A small section of Riverton Road from Westfield Friends to Wayne Drive is closed.
There are a few places around town with downed trees and wires and if there is no manpower at the scene, barricades are up. Residents should stay clear of those areas until PSEG arrives.
Young is asked residents to remain in their homes this morning so cleanup efforts can move quickly.
Cindy Pierson, president of the Pompestown Creek Watershed Association, lives on Pompess Avenue and said at high tide this afternoon, the water will spill over the banks and onto the street.

Agreed. I checked elevations before considering evacuating and saw that our Cinnaminson home was actually above the level of the Palmyra school so we were better off staying. Good call on my part.

My husband just called PSE&G about the active line hanging on the side of Riverton Road after seeing a teenage couple walk right by the line. The wind was blowing causing the line to swing and the boy had to duck out of the way of the lines probably not even knowing they are still hot. PSE&G told him its on the list. Nice! I feel safe knowing its on the list. Thanks PSE&G
