Major Storm More Likely as Hurricane Sandy Approaches
The entire state of New Jersey could be severely impacted, meteorologists say.
Over the last 24 hours, the likelihood of a “very dangerous autumn storm system” next week has increased, according to a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly.
This would affect the entire state, including Burlington County and Cinnaminson.
Today, Hurricane Sandy is near Jamaica and is currently moving north toward the east coast of Cuba. Although there is still some uncertainty whether Sandy is headed this way, Mitchell Gaines, NWS meteorologist, said that since yesterday, the potential for a storm has risen.
“There could be strong, damaging winds, heavy rainfall with streams and rivers flooding and coastal flooding as well,” Gaines said.
The timetable for any impact from Hurricane Sandy turning into a potential nor’easter, Gaines said, would be Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.

Today is Wednesday. Why is it a "Breaking News Alert" for our local Cinnaminson Patch to report a storm currently 1,200-1,500 miles away that may or may not be weather news in NJ next week? It undermines the credibility of Patch to send this out titled as a "Breaking News Alert". Why not title it "Hurricane Near Jamaica May Get to NJ Next Week"? We get swamped with enough email. Reserve this category for something important, time sensitive and local to Cinnaminson. For instance a child or elderly person missing in Cinnaminson (amber or silver alerts), or a car that has just been stolen in Cinnaminson or an accident or a tree down in Cinnaminson that is currently closing a roadway.
