Memorial Day: A Poem

Seventh-grader Christina Gentile submitted this poem she wrote for school.

Cinnaminson resident Michelle Gentile submitted this poem on Memorial Day written by her daughter, Christina.

Christina is a seventh-grader at Cinnaminson Middle School who loves to write poems, her mother said.

"Memorial Day is a special day set aside to honor the men and women, past and present, who fight to protect our freedom. They risk their own lives that we can have the freedoms we have in our country."

I'm red, white, and blue
Wind whips me all around.
When folded into a triangle
I cannot touch the ground.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag"
I hear it every day.
They put me on fallen soldiers' caskets,
I'm draped there and I lay.

I'm all around in America
Like Americans well-known tag
I symbolize our freedom
I'm the proud American flag.
