Needles Not Weapon in Accused Alcohol Theft, Defense Attorney Argues

James C. Johnson Jr., of Camden, remains jailed on $20,000 for allegedly fleeing Cinnaminson's ShopRite with four bottles of Scotch.

A Camden man accused of trying to steal alcohol from ShopRite didn't commit a robbery when he allegedly threatened security guards and police with hypodermic needles, his defense attorney said.

According to The Burlington County Times, defense attorney Anthony Alderasi said James C. Johnson Jr., 54, of Spruce Street in Camden, was warning officers about the needles so they wouldn't get stuck.

Cinnaminson Police said Johnson threatened security with the needles after reportedly taking four bottles of Johnnie Walker Red and fleeing the store.

Bail remained at $20,000 for Johnson, the Times reported.
