Police: Man Gets $3,000 After Bank Mistake, Refuses to Reimburse

A Riverside man who refused to return money to a bank after the teller gave him too much was arrested on theft charges this week, according to police.

Felipe S. DePaula, 27, of the unit block of Scott Street, went to Delanco Federal Savings Bank on Route 130 to cash a $300 check on May 16, Cinnaminson Police said. The bank teller accidentally gave DePaula $3,000 instead of $300. And police said he was caught on tape watching the teller count out the amount.

But DePaula didn't ride high with the cash for long; the bank contacted him the next day to ask for the money back.

DePaula said he lost the envelope.

He was apprehended by Cinnaminson Police, processed and remanded to Burlington County Jail on $2,500 cash bail.

In a way I am siding with this comedian in keeping the money. It's not his problem that these bank tellers are supremely idiotic - did they really think this guy had a check for $3,000? I'm amazed he wasn't cashing the check at a liquor store.

When the same punishment is exercised with the bankers who steal our money everyday with hidden fees, debited entries they can not seem to trace, wires they hold in the system for days on end while they trade your money to make more for themselves, THEN, I will agree with the actions taken. Until then, it seems to me Delanco Bank got somewhat of a taste of the same pain many Americans feel in the treatment of THEIR money when the BANK screws up, u don't get it BACK EVER!

Hey hey hey.... What happened to common decency. We teach our children to be fair and honest. We want that from our civil employees. The S&L employee should probably nit be counting money anymore, but no one should be allowed to hurt the Bank (and ultimately the depositors and customers of the bank), for a banking error.... THIS IS NOT MONOPOLY... if you would teach your kids to be honest we should expect it from this man too...

Apparently only some of us teach are children to be honest. Those with the screw them they made a mistake attitude are just as morally challenged as some of our politicians. Then they wonder why our society is the way it is. The teller made a mistake the right thing to do would have been to give back the money. He aw her counting it out I'm sure he knew before he left the bank is envelope was considerably larger than it should have been.
