Police: Man Steals TV, Sells in Camden for Drug Money

The following arrest information was supplied by the Cinnaminson Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Merchantville man walked out of Walmart Wednesday with 26-inch television and fled in his car before Cinnaminson Police picked him up at a local motel later, officials said.

Douglas M. Verschelde, 27, of the 100 block of Volan Street, was charged with shoplifting after he walked out of the Cinnaminson store with a Sanyo television valued at $278.

Verschelde fled into the parking lot when he was asked to show his receipt. He put the television into his car and drove south on Route 130, police said.

The following day, Cinnaminson detectives located him at the Riviera Motor Lodge on Route 73 in Pennsauken. He was arrested in his room after admitting to stealing the television and selling it for drug money in Camden.

Verschelde was brought to the station, processed and remanded to Burlington County Jail in default of $2,500 full cash bail.

While Verschelde was being processed, Cinnaminson police found a $350 warrant from Camden. His 2004 Jeep Cherokee was impounded pending forfeiture, officials said.
