Police Nab Three For Shoplifting

This information comes from Cinnaminson Police. It does not necessarily indicate a conviction.

Cinnaminson Police arrested three for shoplifting recently—two for taking merchandise from ShopRite and one, from Burlington Coat Factory

Glenn D. King, 49, of the unit block of North 28th St. in Camden, was arrested after allegedly shoplifting approximately $150 worth of merchandise from ShopRite on Nov. 20. King fled loss prevention officers who chased him across the parking lot, across Rt. 130 and toward the Sleep Inn.

King was apprehended when a resident saw him coming out of a wooded area. King was transported to the station and remanded to Burlington County Jail on charges of shoplifting and hindering apprehension. Bail was set at $7,500.

On Nov. 12, Cinnaminson police arrested Robin L. Townsend, 36, of Hopewell Lane in Willingboro, after she allegedly took $400 worth of merchandise from Burlington Coat Factory. She was processed and released pending court.

Luis E. Rivera, 32, of North 32nd Street in Camden, was arrested after he allegedly shoplifted $150 worth of merchandise from ShopRite on Nov. 17. He was processed and released pending court.

Yup-this is what happens when a township puts a low end store in the community/along Route 130......I am anticipating probs with the Bottom Dollar as well, and the residing neighbors in that area. But,I of course want to look at the positive-it's not an empty, desolate building anymore. We shall see!

Jennifer, that is not true at all. ShopRite is now a low-end store and Bottom Dollar is not a low-end grocery store either. It may sound like it is, but it is not. Have you ever visited their other locations in Cherry Hill or Marlton?

Hey Jennifer, Where do you buy your groceries? Shoptite invested $10 million to make our town better. You probably would prefer a new hotel. You are clueless.

Here we go with the unjustified attacks by TVK-no, I am not clueless. You are an idiot if you think I would prefer a new hotel/more like motel. Oh-let's not talk about the tax breaks. To Ellie A., I'm not sure how you gather a store called "Bottom Dollar" is not a low end grocery store, and no I have not shopped at either location. I'll keep an open mind, unlike TVK-and as said previously hope for the best.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh Jennifer, you just admitted your ignorance. Just because it's CALLED "Bottom Dollar" doesn't make it a junky place. Like I said in my previous post, I've been to the store in both Marlton and Cherry Hill and there's nothing low-end about it. Please, let's spread the world of tolerance and not judging a book by its cover. Vanity Fair is the name of a high-end fashion magazine but we all know what that store was like! Please, leave the ignorance out of here. I suggest visiting one of their locations. I think you will be pleased!
But, yes, let's hope for the best for our beautiful town like always, and Happy Thanksgiving!

so...Jennifer....what do you think we should do?...close Shoprite, and wait for Genardi's to invest 10 mil to build YOUR upscale grocery store?...so you can spend MORE of your hard earned dollars for a more expensive box of corn flakes?...what's your logic?...close every store that could be shoplifted from to keep the lowlifes out of Cinnaminson?

Shopping in Cinnaminson is indeed low end. We attract a large mount of riff-raff from Burlington and Camden counties. You are clueless if you think Cinnaminson is not becomIng a mess of junk food establishments. Give me a break - junk buffets, bottom dollar shopping, WalMart. Wake up and smell the coffee. Low lifes travel to our town just to steal. Route 130 is a dump.

You better add a few more names to your list of "bitter and angry sorts" who want better stores in our township because we have always been compared to being a town comparable to Moorestown or Delran or Mt Laurel. Not to bring up an old can of worms but my guess is that some of that 48% percent who voted independent would probably be added to that list. But Patch only allows 150 characters (i think) so that list will have to be split up in multiple comments. Sorry if you think voicing an opinion makes you bitter and angry. Happy Thanksgiving.

The recently opened Zio Tuscany grill is an asset to our community -their food is great. In contrast, the greasy Sonic under construction will bring in a lot of problems. How anyone can laud Sonic is beyond me.
I agree Bottom Dollar will be a disaster but at least Mainline was spruced up. Shoprite is a target for crime because Camden is just a short ride away and the store sells liquor along with groceries. And despite what our township leaders claim, WALMART is the biggest mistake this township ever authorized. Who among us is brave enough to shop there are night? And that Cinnaminson taxpayers paid a fortune to build that road is an insult. What were the township leaders thinking when they gave exemptions which will allow WALMART to add a grocery store? It almost seems necessary for Cinnaminson to post an officer there on a permanent basis now.
Recently, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Cinnaminson had a 26% drop in housing prices in the last five years - the second highest in Burl. Co. Moorestown, which is just a couple blocks from my home, gained 19%. Does anyone know how many Sonics and WALMARTs are there in Moorestown?
I agree with Jennifer. I would happily pay more to attract higher end stores. Aren’t I already doing that? I usually shop in Moorestown and Cherry Hill. I am not bitter. I just get a better shopping experience out of town. Oh, yes, my groceries are bought at our Shoprite but also at the two Wegmans located in Moorestown and Cherry Hill.

Pretty much all housing prices dropped since 2008. Have you seen how many homes are for sale in Moorestown, People are being taxed out of there. And for your info Wegmans is in Mt Laurel, not Moorestown.

I could not agree more with EVERY word you've said. Walmart was the biggest mistake ever, and continues to be an embarrassment. I won't go there at night. In fact, I don't go there at all anymore. And Bottom Dollar will be another disaster, no doubt about it. And Sonic?

I'm saddened by what's happening in Cinnaminson.

I also just noticed that a new Sonic junk food establishment is going up right next to the all you can eat Asian disaster . Other towns may have a few low rent stores like Bottom Dollar but they also have higher quality businesses to balance this out. Ellie A used Marlton as an example of a town having a Bottom Dollar. this is a fair example. However, they also have a Whole Foods, Trader Joes and The Promenade. This is because their township leaders and citizens have much greater vision and pride in the area in which they live. We , on the other hand, settle for Walmart which is the epitome of junk and monopolization combined under one roof !!!

Sarah you better believe I am angry. And Ric and Paula you are absolutely correct . Fortunately I am very close to Moorestown so I have very quick access to Wegmans . That shopping center is a perfect example of how to markedly improve an area. I shop at Wegmans every week and I also go to Shop Rite very often. I would estimate that every 3 out of 20 times I go to Shop Rite their is a police car or two there. I have never seen that at Wegmans. Never. Forget Walmart. They are wasting the time and manpower of our policeforce on a daily basis.
The best way to enjoy living here is to avoid Route 130 shopping and head down Riverton Road or Tom Brown Road into Moorestown, Mt. Laurel, or Marlton. The 26% drop in housing prices here says it all, Ric.

That's what I can't understand. Mt Laurel is a larger township, granted, but the target group is the same. Their Centerton shopping center is a great example of a combination of "high end" discount stores anchored by a high end grocery store that has an aesthetic appeal, and even though some prices are higher (sales are comparable to Shop Rite), you like shopping there. It's different, it's inviting and people may spend a little more because it's enjoyable to shop there. Target, Bed, Bath, TJ Maxx, Joanne Fabrics (and a craft store here would be great); there's a great variety in small shopping center. They are store where Cinnaminson residents go to shop (including Mall nearby). Most of our shopping is done outside Cinnaminson (we do go to ShopRite often) in our neighboring towns.

Bruce, I'm sorry you consider anyone with a different viewpoint an "idiot" but that's ok. I'm not offended. I'm sure you do all your shopping in Cinnaminson and never venture to our neighboring towns' stores to shop for better prices or better quality. If what you're looking for is not to be found in our stores, or is more expensive or of lesser quality you're going to buy in our stores just for the sake of keeping our tax dollars here? Happy Thanksgiving from one of many "idiots" in Cinnaminson.

Put the crime issue aside, if the whole idea is to keep our businesses in business and shop locally, then you have to put in stores that will keep Cinnaminson shopping in Cinnaminson. We're not talking about Bloomingdales or Macys. But, for most families with children or young adults, stores like Old Navy are hubs for clothes shopping. I've read that the retailers seek out the town not the other way around but, if our consumers are similar to our neighboring towns, why don't they seek us out. Why is Old Navy over in Moorestown; if it were here you don't think Moorestown or Mt Laurel would come to us and spend their dollars here. Why are we idiots for wanting the stores here that will bring in other townships' consumers and their money?

Ellie A.

12:19 pm on Thursday, November 24, 2011

I am not exactly sure why you think stores like Barnes and Noble, Wegman's, Whole Foods, Old Navy and more are thinking, "Yes, let's open stores in Cinnaminson—about an 8-minute drive from other locations we have."

Have you people ever heard of suburban sprawl? No one said you have to stay in Cinnaminson to do all of your shopping. No one expects you to! We all go to the Moorestown Mall area, Centerton area and Cherry Hill Mall area to do our shopping and there is nothing wrong with that.

Also everyone, Wegman's is in Mt. Laurel. They do not pay taxes to Moorestown. It just so happens it's on the border of the town. Oh, and there are Walmarts in both Cherry Hill and Marlton. DO you realize the size and population of our town.

You people are so misinformed about economic development.

Ellie, my response was directed to Bruce specifically at his comments above. I know the stores would not open here if they already have one established in a neighboring town. But, before some of the newer stores opened in the last 5-10 years why did they not look at Cinnaminson instead of the other towns. Only one person said the store was in Moorestown; Joseph lives closer to Moorestown so it's an short route to the Mt Laurel Wegmans. Just because we disagree on what type of stores we would like to see here both from an aesthetic standpoint as well as generating revenue for our smaller businesses doesn't mean we hate our township. Otherwise, we'd be moving, right? It's not a personal issue; it's a difference of opinion as to what would make our town better and more attractive to our consumers as well as others. Is that a bad thing?

Hon, chill out. Wegmans is on the border with Moorestown and to get there, I drive through Moorestown. So get over it already.

Are you happy your house lost 26% of its value in the last five years? In Burlington County, only Willingboro beat us.
Why don't you address that problem? I assume you are not a realtor.

All of the stores in other towns mentioned above have exactly the same problem with shop lifting and other criminal activity associated with a retail establishments. You are just not getting the news. I'd like to see some higher end stores in town too. However, take a look at that the land mass needed for the up scale shopping centers you all discuss, much larger than any shopping center in Cinnaminson and none of those store are ever stand alone. Gee, maybe we should throw in the towel and merge with Moorestown so our taxes can really go through the roof.

If people here are blaming the 'low end' stores for the real estate value dropping... How would you explain 20 years ago when Cinnna had no 'high end' stores and many more motels? Yet the values were higher? Cinna never had 'high end' stores and probable never will. Its better off TODAY overall then 20 years ago... Its just a clean, middle class town with nice people and nice homes and nice schools. And we LOVE it here.. You people are whining.. Why don't stores seek _us_ out? Why are there fancier stores in Moorestown than in Cinnaminson? This is real easy:

Median Famliy income Moorestown 2000: $94K
Median Family income Cinnaminson 2000: $75K

Basically, there are fancier stores in Moorestown because fancier people live there. I know people complain about the tax breaks Shop Rite, etc get, but these stores require more tax breaks up front in order to have any desire to come here at all.
What's the benefit? Do you think Smoothie King, 5 Guys, Jersey Mike's etc would have opened if that lot still had an abandoned Caldors? Do you think the housing prices in Cinnaminson would be doing better if it was an abandoned Caldors and motel row instead of what is there now? I don't...

People , People are some of you arrogant enough to believe that "crime" only happens in "low end stores"? Please call the Cherry Hill police and find out how many cars are stolen from the "HIGH END" Cherry Hill Mall parking lot annually...If you are so worried about the "dump "that cinnaminson is becoming please get a better job and move to Moorestown...Also if you want to pay MORE for food plus gas for your big SUV please drive to Wegmans while tilting your head back
