Police: Palmyra Woman Busted for Pot
The woman also had several outstanding warrants for her arrest.
A Palmyra woman riding her bike through town at 1:30 a.m., Oct. 21, was busted for marijuana possession, said police.
Darlayne Lee Painter, 46, was riding along West Third and Arch streets when police stopped her. A warrants check revealed several outstanding warrants for her arrest.
After she was taken into custody, police found marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia on her.
Painter was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was unable to post bail to satisfy the warrants and was lodged in Burlington County Jail.
This information comes directly from Palmyra Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Seriously what a waste of resources. The officer overtime, court fees, processing fees, etc etc are all costing tax-payers, and for what?
Possession of a simple and harmless plant?
Marijuana can't hurt you, but it's illegality can. A plant can't put you in handcuffs, throw you on the ground, kidnap you, and throw you in a cage. What's more destructive to a persons life? The cannabis plant, or the criminal consequences associated with it?
Way to go Palmyra police, you've caged another person whose crime has no victim.
Now, everybody take your doctor prescribed xanax, percocet, adderall, ambien, welbutrin, etc etc. Don't ask questions!

Luke, Most of your points don't make sense. Officer overtime - none. Court fees - paid by the offender, processing fees - paid by the offender. $500 fine - paid by the offender. In reality, this type of arrest is generating funds for the town. i.e. no jail time for the possession(jail for the warrants).
Your paragraph starting with "marijuana" made me laugh a little bit, because I can see you high, trying to make this point. He is an exercise for you…just replace the word "plant" with any noun and it still means the same thing. Gun, knife, fork, cocaine, tank, etc...
Also, I think the actual pot smoking addiction is far worse than a misdemeanor possession charge. How much damage is done to someone who has been smoking pot for 20 years? Physically, emotionally, and financially? And don't tell me pot is not an addiction, if you do it for 20 years, your addicted.
Also, I would say this lady (and her family) is/are the victim. Why would a 46 year old be riding a bike at 2am. She should be home with her family, instead of taking her bike riding high. Somewhere, some one is saying "Where is Mom/Sister/Daughter?" and if there isn't, then that is most likely because of her drug habit.
Now as far as legalizing pot, how are those legal prescription drug coming along??? Everything under control? Definitely not, they are stronger and more addictive. Net-Net. Abusing drugs, legal or not, is a no win situation for all involved.

tobacco, alcohol, caffeine and chocolate are much more addictive than marijuana. i've been drinking beer for over 20 years but i'm not addicted. i don't drink everyday but it's been over 20 years and let's not forget that no one has ever died from smoking weed. marijuana doesn't do anything but make your body feel good and your brain feel weird. it's only illegal b/c mexican migrant workers used to smoke it and america used to be a very racist country, so govt's passed laws to lock them up- in fact all drug laws have their roots in racism.
to suggest that a nonviolent person should be locked up with rapists and murderers for committing a victimless crime speaks volumes about your lack of intelligence and empathy. you should probably see a therapist.

Fact is Marijuana prohibition costs US taxpayers nearly $42 billion dollars per year in criminal justice costs and in lost tax revenues
(source: http://www.drugscience.org/Archive/bcr7/Gettman_Marijuana_Arrests_in_the_United_States.pdf)
That study is by Jon B. Gettman. He has a PhD in public policy and regional economic development from George Mason University. I'll believe him saying marijuana arrests cost taxpayers money over anonymous "Observer" on the internet any day. Doctor Gettman actually did a bit of research!
Observer, who are you to say what a 46 year old woman should be doing with her life? If she wants to ride her bike at 2 am and smoke pot, it's up to you? She should be home with her family? Why's that? Cause observer calls the shots? Please.
Legal prescription drugs are coming along great. They make the pharmaceutical and medical industry billions. They also provide lots of work for law enforcement.
As does marijuana. Prison is a huge industry, and many of those incarcerated are non-violent drug offenders. Big money.
Lawrence Rooney is exactly right about it. Marijuana can't kill you. The drug war is a racist war that locks up mostly minorities and helps maintain an underclass.

1) Nobody said she should be in jail with Rapists/Murders. She would not be in jail for possession of weed. Nor should she be. She will get a fine and be sent on her way
2) I agree, Tobacco and alcohol are more addictive then weed and both are serious problems when abused. How tobacco is legal is beyond logic. But, just because they are legal doesn't mean we should legalize another drug. Two wrongs don't make a right.
3) If someone drinks every day, for 20 years, you have an alcohol addiction. I am not talking about the person who drinks occasionally.
4) If you think this woman, should be smoking weed riding her bike around at 2am instead of with her family, then that is your opinion and I am not saying your wrong, but lets just say we have a different set of priorities.
5) So you found a study saying marijuana is perfectly find, and this study just so hapens to on a website called "The Cannibus Rescheduling petition"...thats classic. Here I just used Google/Bing and found a study on the negative impacts of Weed on individuals. http://www.thcdigest.com/category/marijuana-facts/negative-effects-of-marijuana/
Do you have any Kids? lol
But seriously, the possession of weed, for personal use, in your own home should not be a crime. But don't be an idiot, riding a bike high, at 2am and with warrants. Its just common sense, but as you admit yourself, you don't have common sense when high, "it makes your brain feel weird" lol.

"1) Nobody said she should be in jail with Rapists/Murders. She would not be in jail for possession of weed. Nor should she be. She will get a fine and be sent on her way"
Wrong- New Jersey Marijuana Law is pretty clear that this woman could face up to 6 months for simple possession
50 g or less disorderly person 6 mos $ 1,000
More than 50 g felony 1.5 years $ 25,000
Within 1000 feet of a school adds 100 hours of community service, as well as an additional fine.
"2) I agree, Tobacco and alcohol are more addictive...."
lol, not going to respond to this.
"3) If someone drinks every day, for 20 years, you have an alcohol addiction..."
And if said drinker isn't harming others? It's your place to tell them how they ought to live their own life? Do you own other people, or do they own themselves?
"4) If you think... we have a different set of priorities."
We definitely do, observer. I don't make it a priority to philosophize on how other people should live their own lives.

"5) So you found a study..."
Yes, I found a study, by an expert in a related field. Your study that you linked seemed to be penned by a high school student. I could find you many more studies by physicians from John Hopkins medical school, Harvard, etc etc, but I'm sure you wouldn't read them anyway. It seems you're set in your belief that pot is incredibly dangerous.
I don't have kids (yet) When I do, I'll talk to them honestly about Marijuana. I can only hope that if my kid wants to use mind altering substances, he/she will choose the safest and most natural option- Cannabis. Cannabis never had me passed out in a puddle of my own puke. Regrettably, alcohol has. I'd rather have my kid laughing and eating snacks then drunk driving and passing out like a buffoon.
"But seriously, the possession of weed, for personal use, in your own home should not be a crime."
If you had of stopped there, we might have really agreed with each other. I'd go on to say it's madness that it's illegal anywhere.

besides the drugs and paraphernalia on her, there were several warrants out on her. She was a wanted person for other laws broken. Glad she is of the street

those warrants could be unpaid traffic tickets and anything can be considered paraphernalia. she committed a victimless crime. the streets are not any safer.

Just an fyi...the warrants are for possesion with the intent to distribute and prostitution. I'll tell her to stay in your neighborhood, as you feel comfortable with her "peddling" her goods in your town.

Prostitution, another thing that should be legal. In places where it's legal, women are less likely to be raped, murdered, contract HIV, and also make far more money if they choose to sell their own sexuality. Remember Observer, you don't own anyone's body besides yours. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/oct/24/un-report-calls-decriminalizing-prostitution/ this article does a pretty good job of explaining many benefits of decriminalized prostitution.
If someone is drugged or coerced into sex work, or under age, of course that should be illegal. If a woman wants to engage in voluntary sex work, who are you to judge?

if you smoke weed everyday for 20 years
its not because your addicted, its because you're an idiot
plain and simple I have the option to drink everyday for twenty years, but i don't because i know what the effects of that would be. i.e. idiot
trust me i smoked for 3 years straight day in and day out multiple times a day
then one day i wanted a specific car, and just stopped for a few months. Now i don't wanna say I'll never touch it again, hell i might smoke this weekend. But thats the beautiful thing about marijuana, its not chemically addictive nor will it have a major vice grip on your life.
