Scuba Dive Event Saturday at Pomona to Benefit MSAA

The swim—sponsored by Scubadelphia—is open to the public for a donation that will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

On the last weekend that will be open, the Cinnaminson swim club plays host to a special diving pool party sponsored by Philadelphia’s Scubadelphia that benefits the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.

There are still spots available for the fundraiser where for a donation, participants will get a one-hour instructional scuba diving session. All proceeds will benefit MSAA’s programs and services.

“Anything we can do to help the community, or raise money for events, we’ll do our best,” said Dave Barnes, owner of Scubadelphia, a scuba diving and snorkeling center.

A former lifeguard at Pomona Swim Club works for the MSAA and was looking for a venue to have the fundraiser, said Carl Dean, board president of the swim club. Dean got a call from the former lifeguard who asked if they’d be willing to donate the club.

“We decided it would be a nice event because the money is going to the MSAA,” Dean said.

The club will be open early Saturday morning for two sessions—one at 8 a.m. and one at 9:30 a.m. Instructors from Scubadelphia provide gear for participants and give underwater lessons. There’s an hour-long tour of the pool under water that includes using flashlights, underwater scooters, cameras, games and more.

Instructors with Scubadelphia—the only business of its kind in Philadelphia—teaches scuba lessons to all sorts of groups and has done events for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and events in Camden.

The scuba diving event will take place Saturday, Sept. 8 in two separate sessions, from 8 to 9 a.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A $50 donation goes to the MSAA. Space is limited. Those interested can sign up here.
