Senator Menendez: Don't Go Back to 'Failed' Republican Policies

Menendez, who will lead New Jersey's delegation to the Democratic National Convention, says voters have a clear choice and a proven track record with President Obama.

As U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) attends the Democratic National Convention this week, he wants voters to know they have a clear choice between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

"(Obama) inherited the Bush Great Recession, the new Depression, businesses that made risky bets with two wars raging abroad, while millions of people in our country go to sleep every night without health care insurance," said Menendez—the state delegation's honorary chairman—of the failures of the Bush administration and the progress made under Obama.

Menendez touted Obama's achievements that include, despite opposition in the House and Senate, include passing historic health care legislation, ending the war in Iraq, giving college Pell grants and keeping student loan rates low.

Voters shouldn't be fooled by Republican candidates' promises, because they've heard them before, the senator added.

"We understand the critical nature of this election, which way the country goes, under the Romney and Ryan vision that you're on your own," Menendez said. "What we don't want to do is go back to the policies of Romney and Ryan, risky bets, collective debt, ending medicare as Romney and Ryan promote a voucher program—we could end up in another war like Iraq."

The New Jersey convention delegation is a diverse group that represents the multiculturalism of the state, Menendez said. Delegates include:

Rosemary Bernardi, Marlton (District Alternate)

Reva Foster, Willingboro (District Delegate)

Sherryl Gordon, Columbus (District Delegate)

Anita Lovely, Lumberton (District Delegate)

Jason Springer, Marlton (District Delegate)

Assemblyman Troy Singleton, Palmyra (District Delegate)

Wendell Steinhauer, Lumberton (District Delegate)

"The New Jersey Democrats will feel their spunk, we'll show the real Jersey that we represent. The state has shown in the polling it believes in the vision of the Democrats," he said. "I'm feeling optimistic, I'm feeling the electricity."

"I'm looking forward to the president and Joe Biden—to remind the American people what we've inherited, what we've achieved and where we can lead the country in the next four years."

Can't get off the Bush Blame Game can you Senator? Diverting attention from your and President Obabma's failures does not erase the fact that NJ's unemployment rate is now over 10%.

@Michael Makinson. Or rather Michael you cannot get off the weasel game. Dubya, Cheney, Rice and the religious far right put this country in so much debt from those two failed wars they sent us into the Middle East. Even Jesus Christ could not correct the damage to our economy caused by them. Obama has not reversed the damage but electing Mormon moron Mitty would just bring us into more wars. I guess Iran and North Korea will be next if Mitt and Ryan win.

LET US JUST SAY ON TO MORE WARS TO THE RELIGIOUS FAR RIGHT WAR MONGERS LIKE MITT.
And Michael stop weaseling out of what Dubya et al did to our economy. We cannot afford to go back to the old ways. The republicans should have nominated a moderate.
By the way, Bobby Menendez makes me want to vomit because of his anti-American but pro-illegal stance. There is nothing sacred of America that nitwit would not gave away to an illegal.
But we cannot afford to revert to Bush policies again.

Bobby Mendenez, Bush poliies were wrong but your policy of favoring illegals over American citizens is just as wrong. WHY DON'T YOU RUN FOR OFFICE IN OLE MEXICO SINCE YOU PREFER THEM TO AMERICAN CITIZENS?

I agree we should not look back because staring us in the face is the most incompetent administration ever to hold office the Obama administration! It is one of class warfare and total economic ineptitude. He even failed when he had control of the House and Senate to pass any of his agenda. He is a self promoter and nothing more. He has never managed anything in his life or anyone other than himself! We said Clinton was like letting the local Wal-Mart manager of a poor producing store be CEO! Well the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was not even a stock boy and thus we have an economy teetering on the brink of us being a third world nation over night! But with Mendez's view of immigration I guess that fits with us being a third world country just to make all the illegal's feel right at home!

Bobby what are you doing to help NJ residents? Our debt is sky high and the stimulus failed and we have no jobs. All you have are talking points. We want to know what you have been doing for 6 years while earning 200k with free healthcare and a pension we pay for. Leaders lead. Babies make excuses and blame others. What is your plan to create non union jobs in NJ?

Ric should we stay on the path to banruptcy Obama has us on? He promised to cut the debt. He promised to create jobs. He promised to support Israel. Instead of golfing and campaigning, Obama should be doing something. What has he done to help us in Cinnaminson? Give me some examples.

Hey do not look at Obama to solve any problems, all U have to do is blame our on board for the problems we have, how can Burlington County reduce its tax rate while
Cinnaminson increases its rate and gives away a Charger to a person who lives not even in our town.....Just look at our assessments, all of them are way out of line as to the actual market value.....whos at fault there not Obama.....its our own people...

But if we elect Mitty we will surely go down that road. Can we afford two more republican instigated wars? Didn't Dubya and Cheney teach us to avoid wars? We cannot afford to attack Iran and North Korea. Who would be next after them? France?

As far as Israel, I could not care less what happens to her. She has lived off our dimes since 1967. It is time to say Americans can use the money we waste on her.

Why is pro Israel language removed from Obama's platform? Why did Obama end Clinton's welfare rule requiring people work? Why are 50 million people on food stamps? Why do we have trillion dollar annual budget deficits under Obama? why do you give out freebies to union pals but exclude non union middle class voters? How are we going to pay for Obamacare? My health costs went up 20 percent. You promised they would go down.

If you did a little fact checking, President Obama did not do away with the work for welfare rule. The Obamacare as you call it goes into full effect in 2014, when it will decrease costs..as for the 50 million on welfare I would have to check that one out. Just because a politician says it, does not make it true. You must fact check on both sides...be a smart voter and get all the facts..PS there are more whites on welfare than any other race...and it has been this way for awhile. When you wage two wars and don't pay for them it comes back to bite you in the rear. All politicians have alot of explaining to do, for getting us into this mess. I vote for who I feel will do the best job for the country...and there are slim pickens....

Ric you need a history lesson all wars were started by democrats and cleaned up by republicans up until we were attacked on 9/11! Understand that the biggest drain on our economy was something that no one could have predicted KATRINA the costs were staggering and there is where a great deal of debt went to . But as for the mortgage debacle this was squarely on the shoulders of the dems. who controlled FNMA and FreddiMac. I know because I spent 25 years as a mortgage banker and my last 2 years in the business as a consultant to FNMA who roundly ignored a report telling them to get out of the sub-prime market! All at the insistence of Barney Frank!
