Speed Raceway to Hold Grand Opening With Giveaways, 94 WIP Host, More

The go kart facility has been open for more than a month, but manager Brandon Whiting is holding a grand opening event this weekend.

Business has been booming at Speed Raceway, the go-kart facility that opened in the former Vanity Fair location Dec. 14.

On Saturday, it will have a grand opening celebration, complete with a ribbon cutting, giveaways and a Philadelphia sports talk personality.

“Cinnaminson has welcomed us with open arms,” said Brandon Whiting, manager of Speed Raceway.

Starting at 11 a.m., when the facility opens, to its closing at 10 p.m., raffle prizes will be announced as well as package giveaways, including gift cards, hats and shirts.

Free pizza will be given out at noon for those who race Saturday.

Whiting, a former defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles, called on some former friends, and from 1 to 3 p.m., 94 WIP personality Paul Jolovitz will be giving away Wing Bowl tickets and WIP prize packages.

Cinnaminson Mayor Ben Young and Deputy Mayor Anthony Minniti are slated to cut the ribbon for Speed Raceway at 3 p.m.

Listen to WIP between 1 and 3 p.m., Jan. 19, to hear Whiting talk about Speed Raceway.

The business opened just about two weeks before Christmas and in those weeks it was packed.

“People were off work, kids were home from school, it was crowded fast,” Whiting said.

Expectedly, the daytime traffic has died down a little but weekends have been great, Whiting said.

Stay tuned for photos from the grand opening celebration Sunday.

Was there last night. Attract daytime traffic with early bird packages!!! I'm aiming for track reord!! Place is great and we'll be there often!!! Now let's get a paintball or laser-tag place where Acme was and make the hole center an entertainment attraction. Or is Black Diamond a dead issue??

Great idea Sean! Always looking for birthday ideas for my pre-teen son... Not too many options in the area. That combo would make for a great day and give the kids in the area something to do other than hanging out at the mall! Would love to see the $1.50 cinemas come back (without the problems, ie needs more security). The kids are bored, and boredom leads to problems. A complex geared more towards tweens and teens is needed in this area.

Oh boy, an entertainment center for the youngsters, great, paintball, laser-tag, how about a pin ball arena or a penny arcade like at the shore....how about bowling, dart throwing, a penny arcade. How about roller skating or rowing on the flooded areas in our town...The ideas are endless if U put your mind to it.....river rafting, we shall see what new ideas we can come up with for new ratables for our schools...have a great day...

I did go and looked into a party for my 12 year old. Way too expensive. It was $60 per kid. I don't think this will end up being much of a teen hangout. It is $20 for a 10 minute race plus a one time registration fee. I don't know a lot of teens who can afford it. Still the place is pretty cool and I hope they are successful.

Come on Val, there are plenty of spoiled brats in Cinnaminson, and a whole boatload full in Moorestown whose parents will just hand them money to get them out of the house. I remember Malibu raceway, it was very cool but no one could afford to go often enough. I will definitely try this once or twice, but can't afford to make it a hobby. There's nothing like it around, so it should be here for a while. Enjoy it.

I'll pass on the grand opening day.. But I've been there several times with friends and family. It's a great place to test your skills and blow off some steam. Good luck guys.. You made me invest in my own full face helmet. ;)

Oh boy, I hope U blow off steam there and not on the roads....We have too many speeders now we do not need people to blow off steam on the roads....I would think that if they are having a grande opening now after a month of being open there not getting the customers they want to have oh well.... idea, go fishing on the flooded streets and have fun for free...

I think it's smart to have a grand opening after being open a while. It gives them and any other business a chance to get all the kinks worked out.

@Dan. I enjoy what John has to say. He brings up good points about issues and he also suggests ways how to improve this good town of ours. I like that John encourages conversation.
Of course there are those who enjoy the boring meaningless repetitive "I can't wait to eat/go there" comments. Frankly, to me waiting for the new 7-11 to open was boring. So I just ignore the “I can’t wait” comments. I don’t even respond that the comment is boring to me. Likewise you might want to ignore John’s comments.

Not me, who is the one who said they were blowing off steam...I am not a sour puss using your words....I also do not pass judgement on people b/c they write in the comments section like some people do....enjoy the trip around the race course....

Frank course record is low 17s. I pulled 18.4 as my best. I'll get it down easily. Course is totally smooth and the staff is cool. Still wish it was as big as Malibu but the acreage isn't there. But the place is cool. And John what's wrong with an entertainment complex?? You already got Brothers, ahem Tony's, Supreme Buffet, and Sonic. Paintball is huge and very popular. For the little ones you could do the laser tag so no one gets hurt. The space is perfect. Or I don't board or blade but I heard Black Diamond was great in Moorestown. What would you like to see there seriously? This would be a great location and Extremely PR friendly. The marketing could be huge!!!

not against an entertainment complex, how about indoor golf, minature, pin ball games, horse shoe pits, baseball cages, but make sure its all level b/c someone said that the course was not even level from a person who enjoys the track....those are his words not mine....I know our township loves it for the ratables, we need it for the schools so our taxes stay down ha ha....
