Speed Raceway to Open at the End of the Month

Speed Raceway should open by the end of the month, according to the Cinnaminson location’s general manager—the group is waiting on cart and track certification from the state.
Brandon Whiting, general manager, said the certification is the main thing holding up the Speed Raceway opening on Route 130.
“We’re pretty much getting things buttoned up over here,” Whiting said.
Superstorm Sandy also may have contributed to the state’s late certification process and there were some shipping delays with the go-karts that come from Italy.
“But we want to do it right,” Whiting said of the opening. He’s expecting the certifications to come though within the next two weeks and is planning for an end-of-the-month opening.
“We’re excited about it,” Whiting said. “We get people coming in every day excited about it opening.”
Whiting, a former defensive lineman with the Philadelphia Eagles, was working in construction when he was in the area and stopped by the facility a few months ago. Whiting, who lives in Haddonfield, will manage the day-to-day business of the Cinnaminson location.
“I ran into a few of the owners, hit it off really well and it went from there,” Whiting said. “It developed into a good working relationship.”

NANCY,Do we make this particular cart here in the U.S.? All so,with the Dollar dominating the Euro,you might not be able to beat the price..As a professional mechanic,I do know the the Italians make a very rugged small engine...I plan on apply for a service technician job there..These machines are going to take a beating....lol

Why weren't sidewalks added?
Of course, Ken Gertie was supposed to add sidewalks to his property on Rt. 130. They are a county requirement. They were even included with his presentation to the town council but a year later there are none - yet he is advertising for tenants. Anyone know what is going on with Gertie's sidewalks?

Hi Clifford, I actually made that edit. I think it's the latter of your possibilities. Christina had facility, which seemed a little too buttoned up for a fun place like this. We do fun activities as a Patch group and Speed Raceway is at the top of our list, so believe me when I tell you, no belittlement intended!

Ric : If Mr Gertie were to install sidewalks an individual using it would be forced to walk on the shoulder of the highway at it's end. There seems to be a stupid move to make route 130 Cinnaminson's "Downtown". Can you visualize people using the sidewalks with truck and auto traffic whizzing by at 50-60 MPH? Reduce the MPH speed ? Then you lose those who use the road, because they'll find other ways to circumvent.

Lesanda. The point is: Ken Gertie agreed to install sidewalks during a council session where he got approval to build. He did not honor his commitment. Why has the Cinnaminson town council not taken any action for compel Gertie to honor his obligation?

Ric.Ken Gertie did not build anything. He purchased an existing piece of real estate. He may have asked for a permit to renovate or a change of use variance. I don't see sidewalks in front of the former Spain Realtor Building, nor the new Sonic construction or the new 7-11. Nor do I see any change in the tax structure that was granted to Hovanian for the sale of the units and then turning it over to a real estate property management company who is leasing the units. I would think that the original agreement with Hovnanian would voided and taxed like any other assessed property.Don't you?Do you think perhaps Ken Gertie, having run as a Democrat in last years election has any bearing on this?Maybe?

Hy, reread this patch report about all the pedestrians killed along Rt. 130 and then look at what you said: “Do we really need the sidewalks there. Who cares!!”
Hy, do profits mean more to you than the life of a child walking along that highway? Can you comfortably live with yourself if anyone gets killed because a business did not payout the small cost of a sidewalk? To think you are a republican pillar of this community.

I was disappointed to see how expensive it will be to have a kids party there. It would have been fun but I was quoted $45-65 per person. Too rich for our family. Still I am glad to see a business there and hope it is successful.

We went to the track to race today. What a fun time. These karts are extremely fast and handle really well.. No rift raff just families... And at $54 for my Son and I to race, this will not be for everyone.. But we will be regulars..
