Two Riverton Home Burglaries Occur in Two Days

Police are asking residents to call with any information.

Riverton Police are investigating two borough home burglaries in two days and are asking all residents to call them if they see anything suspicious.

On Jan. 28, a home on Carriage House Lane was broken into and jewelry, electronics and money were stolen, said Riverton Police Chief John Shaw.

A second burglary was reported on the 600 block of Thomas Avenue. Again, Shaw said, forced entry was made and various electronics and other items were taken.

“We don’t get too many [burglaries],” Shaw said. “The last one was several months ago.”

Shaw said he wanted residents to know about it, “especially the fact that they were back to back.”

“I want to make people aware of it,” he said.

Shaw said if anyone sees anything suspicious, they should call the Riverton Police at 856-829-1212.

“Call us, let us check it out,” Shaw said. “Even if it’s a noise you hear.”

Callers may remain anonymous.

Residents are reminded to lock all doors and windows.

Maybe all the comfy suburban liberals will finally get off the "guns 'r bad, why would anybody need a gun?" nonsense when the comfy suburbs start to see more crime like this.

Jenn, who wants to take _all_ your guns? Last time I checked it was not "they"..

What the heck? You guys want to give guns to the thieves who break into our homes? Sorry, but we should make it harder for them to get guns. You guys are off your rockers.

I think we can do without the insults, Pundit. And obviously, you know that I don't "want to give guns to the thieves." That is plainly a strawman argument.

JustALocalGuy, we are in agreement in neither of us wants the bad guys to have guns. The differences between us are that I live with the scars from a hand gun crime and I want to ban all guns unless there is a way that guarantees bad guys will not have access to them.

Pundit, clearly you have an emotional reaction to gun issues based on your history, and that is understandable. The practical reality, as has been shown in places like Chicago and England, is that gun bans don't make anyone other than the criminals safer. They still get their hands on guns anyway. It's impossible to make them all disappear, and even if you could, people could still build more guns. Gun bans just don't work any more than alcohol bans or marijuana bans. It's pathologically absurd to think they can work, given the overwhelming historical evidence to the contrary.

Though I am pro gun, these were Burglaries which means no one was home when they broke in. Guns would not have made a difference on way or the other

Unfortunately, Frank, burglaries turn into violent armed robberies when the so-called burglar doesn't realize somebody is home, and then has a witness to deal with.

Nobody is trying to take ALL guns away. Guns that can hold many many rounds of ammunition are only needed for the Military and different areas of Law Enforcement.

That is an uninformed and inaccurate position based solely on emotion.

Right, O is going to take away all yer guns. I hear a AR-15 is a perfect home defense weapon.

Dan - An AR-15 is of course an excellent home defense weapon.

* The select-fire version of it, the M4, is the weapon of choice for our troops overseas who are doing house-to-house urban combat
* It can hold enough ammunition to defeat multiple attackers
* The 5.56/.223 rounds are very effective against personnel
* It's the rifle of choice for our police, who are arming themselves against the same attackers you are

A responsible gun owner has his/her weapons locked up so children & mentally ill ones can't get a hold of those weapons. If someone is breaking into your home how fast can you get to your weapon?
Get a alarm system..ADT does a Great job.

"A responsible gun owner has his/her weapons locked up so children & mentally ill ones can't get a hold of those weapons."

Sure, and I don't have a problem with any of that. Well, maybe a small problem with how we tend to overdiagnose "mental illness" in this country, but that's a whole different topic.

"Get a alarm system"

What do you think that's going to accomplish? So the alarm goes off, and someone at ADT then calls the house to see if it was an accident/false alarm, and after some wait time, they call the police. Then what? If you're home, you don't need the alarm, because you're there and can call the police yourself. You just need an effective way to defend yourself while you wait for the police to arrive. If you're not home, well, that's what insurance is for, I suppose.
