Phillies fans all over the Delaware Valley tonight will hold their collective breath and hope the Fightins regroup to finish off the St. Louis Cardinals to advance to the National League Championship Series.
Some will watch at home, screaming at the TV. Some will get together with friends.
But all over the area, many fans will turn out at their favorite watering hole to watch the game and take advantage of drink specials.
Business is good when the Phillies play, local bar managers said.
“You know how the fans are. They get riled up,” said Jackie Battee of Whistlers Inn. “We’re packed in here for every game.”
All the better if the Phils are actually winning. Tonight is the decisive game in the series, do or die time to Philadelphia (and St. Louis, for that matter.)
“No matter what’s happening, there’s cheering throughout the whole game,” Kevin Stone of the Jug Handle Inn said. “But people definitely walk out of here with their heads down after the loses.”
Park Tavern bartender Dave Banger could be the Phillies’ good luck charm. They win when he works in the Palmyra bar.
“This elimination game should draw a big crowd,” Banger said. “People want to watch the game together.”
Tonight’s game starts at 8:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on TBS. Here are a few places to watch the game and capitalize on some drink specials to boot:
Jug Handle Inn, 1018 S Fork Landing Rd., Cinnaminson
During game time, there are $3 Red Stripes and $2.50 Bud bottles.
Park Tavern, 701 Park Ave., Palmyra
Pre-game with the 4-7 p.m. happy hour: $1.75 domestic pints and $3.50 domestic small pitchers. During game time, pints and bottles of Bud and Bud Light are $2.
P.J. Whelihan’s, 396 S. Lenola Rd., Maple Shade
Bud and Bud Lights $2.50 for drafts and bottles on Fridays. Shock Top beer is $3 for drafts.
Whistlers Inn, 901 Route 130 South, Cinnaminson
Miller Lite, Bud Light, Bud and Coors Light are $2; Yuengling bottles and drafts are $3.
What did we miss? Tell us where you’re watching the game, and any drink specials you’ve heard about.

I'm surprised this article is in the Moorestown Patch, because from reading it, I thought that everyone in Moorestown was against drinking. Oh, that's right, they think that if they go across the street to Maple Shade and get drunk, that won't affect the "character" of their wonderful town. Jokes on them -- as Maple Shade (or Mt. Laurel, or Delran, or Palmyra) gets the commercial revenues, and they are just stuck with a longer drive home!)

If anyone wants to watch the games on the computer, you can go to JokoSports. They always have very good quality streams and I watch MLB and NFL games there regulary when I'm not at home. http://tinyurl.com/3hexrdd

Funny how the Patch is so biased towards liquor. Good timing for an article. Let's write any story, use any reason to talk about liquor. Keep liquor, drinks, booze in the titles.
Not disturbed though. the Moorestown voters won't let the outsiders influence their vote. Enjoy the booze!

Wrong. The Patch has done an admirable job of reporting both sides of the coin. I suppose we can take your attack against the Patch as a sign of your growing desperation as you slowly realize that there really is a good bit of support for the liquor referendum here in town.
Sorry about your luck, I guess....

I won't get cocky and way over confident like you / downside do , but do think yous have a ways to go to to get the catch up votes that you need. I guess It's te outsiders an a lot of money that you are counting on rather than appealing to the voters.

Lfmf... I live in Moorestown as do many MHS classmates... Baker bear in the early 70's .....hate to break it to you but we are for liquor. A whole bunch of us parents were on the sidelines of a game yesterday watching the next generation come thru the town that we love and we don't see liquor changing that. So while you may not be for it...speak for yourself. There are a lot of real Moorrstownians that are totally ok with it...by the way...when did you move here..?

Well, it seems the tide is finally turning on this blog. The anti-liquor characterites have finally resorted to attacking the Patch, the very site that allows them to insult, degrade and spread falsehoods about anyone who doesn't agree with them. I only wish these sleezy characters would reveal themselves. On the brite side, it seems they're out of bullits, and folks to attack. Wait, we still have Mother Theresa.

Hope you boozers enjoyed spending the $7 beers and those bars.
Wow if wanted to drink, what happened to those basement bars that Ginger raved about.
Another paraphrase "people have those bars in their basements and have shelves of liquor" so who cares that we open bars in Moorestown"
Trying to find the phrase that"pays" ..ironic.
Hope those boozers recover for autumn day. Enjoy!
VOTE NO to both LIquor questions!!

The four anchors, elevation burger, Chipolte, vickies,
Hey Quaker if you know the mall so much you would know if spencers is still there. That's like saying is Hermans and filenes basement still there. How about Roy Rogers? Where are those ducks? How about that popular pet store? Yep I've been a moorestown mall fan and have almost always shopped. So no restaurants pull me in to shop. It was a shame with that darn fire, awhile ago, big name stores couldn't come back until all was refurbished. That was when a number of stores did not come back. Not because the mall needed alcohol.
But we know the mall can survive without liquor. The owners know they can draw up other ideas and plans without the booze. We will still support the mall. With what happened at cheery hill mall, a lot of congestion has occurred and with the restaurants being outside, it provided less parking, thus appearing as a always packed parking lot but rather many fewer spots to park.
The Moorestown Mall will survive without liquor.
