Burlington County submitted the following news release: Burlington County County Clerk Tim Tyler announced the Clerk’s Office has completed its initial mailing of primary election ballots. Any ballot requested for the June 4 Primary Election before April 25 should be received in the coming days. “My office began issuing ballots on Friday, April 19, starting with Military and Overseas UOCAVA voters. Civilian ballot mailing also began the same day,” said Tyler. Democrat Paterno will vie for Committeewoman Kathy Fitzpatrick’s open seat this fall, while Fitzpatrick will seek a third term on committee. At just 25 years old, this is Paterno’s first bid for public office. Township Committeewoman Kathy Fitzpatrick will seek a third term on committee, defending her seat against a challenge from Democrat Matthew Paterno. Fitzpatrick, who served as mayor for part of her second term (only the fourth female mayor in township history), filed a petition with the township clerk to once again run for committee. The deadline for candidates was this past Monday. She said her goals for a third term are fairly simple—and really no different from her goals during her entire tenure. "Now, really my goal is to just serve the residents," she said. "I can be a conduit to help people who may not have somewhere to turn." Gov. Chris Christie is the best person to lead New Jersey over the next four years, according to voters polled in a survey released this week by Quinnipiac University. Christie, a Republican, leads his Democratic rival, state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), 62 percent to 25 percent in the state's 2013 gubernatorial race, according to the poll. The governor's overall approval rating also remains high. Christie's 74 percent approval rating and 69 percent favorable rating tie his personal record highs from January, the Huffington Post reports, both numbers buoyed by public perception of the way he handled Hurricane Sandy's impact and its aftermath. Gov. Chris Christie will run for re-election for New Jersey governor's seat, he confirmed Monday. Christie made the announcement during an appearance at a press conference at the Port Monmouth Fire Department in Middletown Monday afternoon. The governor declined to talk in detail about his bid, saying he is saving that for a more formal announcement in January. But he did say he sought the advice of his wife, Mary Pat, and four children during the Thanksgiving Day weekend, and got their blessing. Committeeman-elect John McCarthy is developing plans for his first political position, and wants to hear from residents about their ideas and concerns.
Cinnaminson Township Committee’s just-elected member, John McCarthy, may be new to the political scene, but that doesn't mean he isn't already fully prepped to get the job done. McCarthy won an uncontested race on Tuesday for an open seat on the township committee. He'll assume the position at the committee's reorganization meeting in January. McCarthy, 54, has never held a position in public office. In fact, up until now, he’d never even run for one. In the uncontested township committee race, current Mayor Don Brauckmann retained his seat and newcomer John McCarthy will be a new face on the dais. Current Committeeman John Rooney did not seek another term. According to unofficial election results, Brauckmann nabbed 4,951 votes while McCarthy received 4,947. The winners did not return calls for comment by presstime. Cinnaminson Township is a committee-based government, which means residents vote for five committee members and those members appoint a mayor each year.
