BCC Board of Trustees selects officers, receives briefing on college initiatives

Pemberton, NJ – The Burlington County College (BCC) Board of Trustees organized for the 2013-2014 academic year on Tuesday, selecting George Nyikita Chair.

Nyikita has led the board since May when previous Chair Joseph R. Malone was elected to the Bordentown City Commission.

“Serving on the Burlington County College Board of Trustees is a tremendous honor and awesome responsibility that every board member takes very seriously,” Nyikita said. “I’m humbled that my colleagues have faith in my ability to lead in our effort to provide access to exceptional and affordable higher education in Burlington County.”

The board selected Natalie Collins as Vice Chair, Michael D. Minton as Treasurer, and BCC President David C. Hespe as Secretary.

“I welcome the new leadership of the Board of Trustees and look forward to working with them on important new initiatives that will focus on workforce development, veterans’ education and other ways to help the people of Burlington County,” said Burlington County Deputy Freeholder Director Leah Arter, who is liaison to the college.

Vice Chair Collins is serving her first term on the board.

“Burlington County College offers tremendous opportunities for students and I’m excited to play a part in helping them achieve their educational goals,” Collins said. “Helping students as a trustee has been a very gratifying experience and I look forward to serving the community in this new role.”

In other business, the board was briefed on the college’s progress on staff and unit goals for 2013-2014 that tie into BCC’s long-term strategic plan, as well as an initiative to better prepare students for college success.

“The focus at Burlington County College is always on the students,” Nyikita said. “The college provides an opportunity for quality and affordable education, and more importantly, we follow students every step of the way to make sure they succeed.”
