Cooper’s Ferry Partnership Welcomes William M. Varley, President of New Jersey American Water as New Board Member

Anthony J. Perno, III, CEO, of Cooper’s Ferry Partnership and John P. Sheridan, board co-chair announced William M. Varley as the newest member of the Cooper’s Ferry Partnership Board of Directors. 

Varley serves as president of New Jersey American Water and New York American Water. He is responsible for reinforcing and strengthening customer, regulatory and local government relationships, while driving operational and financial results. Varley also serves as the senior vice president of American Water’s Northeast Division and leads an organization of more than 700 water and wastewater professionals.

New Jersey American Water serves the needs of more than 300,000 customers in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem Counties.

“New Jersey American Water is a company recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs of its residential and commercial customers in New Jersey,” said Perno.  “Great attention must be paid to upgrading aging water system infrastructure, particularly in cities like Camden that are poised for significant economic development and residential growth. We look forward to Bill’s expertise and guidance in these and other water-related matters,” Perno added.

New Jersey American Water is a supporter of many community-based initiatives throughout the region, and has made significant financial contributions to The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, opening in October in Camden, as well as the manpower and materials needed to build and connect the Center’s new water lines.

Varley earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering technology from Rochester Institute of Technology. He is currently on the board of Choose New Jersey, and the steering committee of the Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton College. He is past chairman of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies, and is a member of the American Water Works Association. Varley resides in Voorhees, NJ.
