Carnival Starts Tonight

The annual event draws thousands from Cinnaminson and beyond.

Cinnaminson's social event of the year—the Borromeo Carnival—starts tonight and this year, you can expect a few surprises.

"We're trying to give people a little different variety," said co-chair John Rooney.

Rooney, a Cinnaminson committeeman, and his wife Valerie are helping John and Renee Walsh with co-chairing this year's carnival.

In addition to all the usual games and rides, carnival-goers can enjoy different foods this year and also enjoy karaoke nights and live music.

"We changed up the food menu a little bit to give a better variety of food," Rooney said.

Also, there will be a deejay offering karaoke for a couple of hours each night.

"With the food menu and karaoke, we're trying to hold the crowd a little bit more," Rooney said.

The carnival starts at 6 p.m. each night and runs until 11 p.m. The kiddie carnival will be held Friday afternoon starting at noon.

Rooney also said people can expect newer and better games.

"Things should look more flashy and brand new," he said. "We're hoping to provide a more appetizing and appealing atmosphere for people who come."

And since public safety is the township department Rooney works the closest with, he said the committee makes sure the carnival is well-stocked every night.

Rooney said are hired, as well as police members from surrounding towns.

"There are so many people who help out with this," Rooney said. "There's a lot of credit to go around in all the community that helps out every year."
