Cinnaminson's New Hibachi Grill Open for Business

The Asian cuisine restaurant aims to please with the area's largest sushi bar.

Township diners have a new eatery option—the Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet on Route 130 is ready for hungry diners after opening its doors on March 11.

The Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, the chain's largest restaurant in New Jersey, is located in the space next to the closed Branch Brooks store in the Acme shopping center. It's hard to miss the restaurant, with the parking lot fluttering under a tangle of colorful flags to herald the new dining spot.

With more than 20,000 square feet of space, the new restaurant is advertising a large selection of Chinese, Japanese and American cuisine.

Keeping up with the highly competitive Asian restaurant markets, the owners hope the wide-ranging menu is a success.

“Our buffet bar will have over 250 different items daily,” said Leon Chen, manager of the new eatery. “And, we will have the largest sushi bar in the area,” with salmon, tuna and California rolls among the choices.

Among some of the popular dishes that will be offered on the buffet are black pepper shrimp, crispy chicken and barbecue ribs.

“We will offer soups every day,” said Chen. “One of our more requested soups is hot and sour.”

Chen, 32, originally from China, has been running some of the other Hibachi Grills are located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. The chain has been operating for about 10 years, and is headquarted in North Carolina.

Besides the buffet and sushi bar, the hibachi-style grill will provide another alternative. Diners will be able to select steak, chicken or fish to be served with vegetables and, of course, rice. The dishes are cooked without MSG or oils.

“For people who don’t want Chinese food,” said Chen, “we will offer pizza and other Italian meals.”

The family-friendly spot will have a dessert bar with fresh fruit, cookies and eight flavors of ice cream, including sugar-free options.

The large space, completely redone in red woods and contemporary lighting, cost more than $1 million. Chen says the space will have two private rooms for birthday parties, office meetings or other affairs, holding up to 200 people.

Opening seven days a week, lunch prices will start at $6.59 Mondays through Saturdays. Dinner is $8.99 and will be served all day on Sundays. Kid menus will start at $2.79, with kids under 2 free.

Hibachi is the first business to open in that spot since Acme closed earlier this year. The Vanity Fair spot may be demolished and built back up. Sonic, a popular fast food drive-in, is slated to open in the same shopping center later this spring.
