A township woman organizes an event to rid the seven parks of trash.

In an effort to beautify the township’s seven parks, a Cinnaminson woman is spearheading a cleanup day and is seeking volunteers.

Christine Turner, a mom of three, got the idea after communicating with other township residents through comments on a . After contacting Deputy Mayor Donald Brauckmann, who’s also the director of parks and recreation, the cleanup day was born.

“I’ve had a tremendous response from sport groups, kids and parents,” said Turner.  “But, we do need to try to get to more people.”

After meeting with the township, Turner said Cinnaminson officials are providing trash bags and water to volunteers. They are also providing mulch and all play areas will be re-mulched for the spring/summer seasons.

Turner also wants to solicit local farmers, florists or landscapers interested in donating flowers. It was Turner’s idea to plant flowers at the base of the park’s signs.

“To spruce it up,” Turner said. “So, when everybody walks away, they will see they accomplished something.”

Turner is printing up fliers this weekend to distribute around town and is encouraging any resident to visit their neighborhood park on March 26 to help with the cleanup. No registration is required.

“We’re always at the parks,” Turner, a 15-year Cinnaminson resident, said. “We try to go to different ones. We use them for sporting events, too.”

March 26 will also be when the U13 Girls Charge Soccer Team the soccer kick wall. Turner said some neighbors were also scheduling a barbecue at Fountain Farms for after the cleanup.

“It’s definitely worth it,” Turner said. “It will build community and keep everyone involved.”

Turner hopes beautifying all the parks at one time will encourage residents to keep it clean on a daily basis, but she hopes this becomes an annual event.

“The township has been wonderful,” Turner said. “They are very supportive in getting the word out.”
