Community's Generosity Gives Helps Disabled Teen Get Needed Wheelchair

Dawud Hamden, of Bordentown, was able to obtain a power wheelchair he needed after suffering transverse myelitis at the age of 13, according to My9NJ.

A Bordentown teenager who suddenly lost the use of his limbs without explanation is getting a second chance thanks to the generosity of his community.

Dawud Hamden was diagnosed with a rare bacterial infection known as transverse myelitis at the age of 13. The disease affects the spinal cord.

Hamden was initially unable to get a power wheelchair because the cost wasn’t covered by insurance, but his family has been able to raise over $30,000 over the course of a month and a half, My9NJ reports.
