Garden State Chorale to Perform Broadway Bound May 10

On Saturday May 10, the Garden State Chorale will be presenting its annual spring pops concert “Broadway Bound.”  Now in its 83rd year, the Chorale includes singers from throughout South Jersey, and is under the direction of Robert Frederick. 

This year’s program will take the audience on a journey through selections from almost 100 years of Broadway musicals. 

Included are songs by composers from George M. Cohan, Irving Berlin, and Rodgers & Hammerstein up to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, and Elton John.

The show also features music from classic shows like “Porgy and Bess,” “South Pacific,” and “Brigadoon,” up to many more contemporary hits like “Phantom of the Opera,” “Lion King,” “Hairspray,” “Rent,” “Aida,” and even “Spamalot.”  You’re sure to hear lots of your favorite tunes! 

Afternoon and evening performances will take place at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church at 327 Marlton Pike (Route 70) in Cherry Hill, located just adjacent to Ponzio’s Diner.

Proceeds from the concert help fund the Chorale’s annual scholarship program, which awards $2,000 to a South Jersey high school senior pursuing his/her college education in vocal studies.  The 2014 scholarship recipient will also perform during the concert.
