Piece of 'Hallowed Ground' Arrives in Cinnaminson

Cinnaminson recently received a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, which will be used to create a permanent 9/11 memorial.

CLARIFICATION: Multiple groups have expressed interest in taking on the creation of a 9/11 monument, and it may or may not be ready in time for the township's 9/11 memorial ceremony next month, according to Committeeman Don Brauckmann.

A photo of the piece of steel has been removed from this story at the request of the township, as they're saving it for a "grand reveal" at the 9/11 ceremony.

A piece of steel from ground zero arrived in Cinnaminson late last week and will be used to create a permanent memorial at a township park later this year.

"It was kind of neat," Committeeman Don Brauckmann said of the 18-inch chunk of steel beam. "It's kind of like hallowed ground."

He said the piece will be unveiled to the public at the township's annual 9/11 memorial ceremony, which will be held on Sept. 8 this year at Wood Park.

The Cinnaminson chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (Mike Doyle Division) has already expressed interest in helping create the memorial, according to Brauckmann, who said he envisions the monument being placed in Wood Park—where the annual 9/11 ceremony is held.

Township administrator Frank Locantore, a former Evesham Police officer, secured the piece of steel through the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which has given pieces of the former World Trade Center to hundreds of municipalities across the country.
