Don't mind getting your hands dirty—literally?

Come on out for Cinnaminson's annual park cleanup day next Saturday.

The third annual event, as in past years, invites volunteers to pitch in cleaning up and beautifying the township's seven parks.

Organizer Christine Turner started the park cleanup day in 2011—coincidentally enough, she said the idea for the event sprang out of a conversation in the comments on Patch—as a way to not only improve the township's parks, but also to bring people together.

"It really promotes community appreciation. It's a wonderful thing. It brings people out," she said. "Throughout the year, people come up to me and tell me how great it is and they can't wait for the next one."

Turner said the event typically draws a few hundred volunteers between all the parks. Volunteers are encouraged to bring spades and rakes, while the township will provide bottled water and trash bags. 

Besides general cleanup, volunteers will also plant flowers and spread mulch at many of the parks.  

And come hungry: A number of local businesses are donating breakfast for the volunteers as well, Turner said.

In addition to the parks, a number of volunteers have also pledged to give the hockey rink at Memorial Park a makeover. (Sign up for the event by joining the Facebook group here and check back with Patch for a full story Saturday.)

The event will be held rain or shine; however, if rains are heavy, the event will be cancelled. That decision will be made by 8 a.m. Saturday. Check back with Patch for updates.

Those who wish to help can go to their neighborhood park—or any other park—at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 30. The event will run from 9 a.m. until about 2 p.m. For information, contact Turner at shawncraigmom@aol.com or 609-405-3953.

Turner said individuals can just show up to the parks the day of, but encouraged large groups of volunteers to contact her ahead of time so she can better coordinate where they'd be most useful. Lead volunteers are assigned to each park to assign areas to those who wish to help.

The parks in Cinnaminson are: Wood Park, Memorial Park, Ravenswood Park, East Riverton Park, Extension Park, Fountain Farms Park and Garfield Park.
