Route 130 Named State's Most Dangerous Road for Fourth Straight Year

For the fourth consecutive year, the nonprofit Tri-State Transportation Campaign named Route 130 the most dangerous road in New Jersey for pedestrians.

According to the report, 12 people were killed on the road between 2010 and 2012, with eight of them being killed over a 7.5 mile stretch from Cinnaminson to Willingboro.

These deaths came in spite of recent efforts by state leaders to make the road safer, including increased enforcement of violations through the Operation 130 Safe Passage program.

“These initiatives are great start, but US-130 needs pedestrian infrastructure changes such as continuous sidewalks, median islands and crosswalks as well,” Mathew Norris, the Campaign’s South Jersey advocate, said in the report.

Route 30 in Camden County was No. 2 on the list, with nine deaths over the same time period. Route 30 in Atlantic County was tied fourth with six deaths.

Middlesex County had two roads on the list (Route 1 with seven deaths and Route 9 with six). Atlantic County also had two roads on the list, as Route 322/40 made the list with six.
