Volunteers Continue Hockey Rink Makeover

Supporters are getting the hockey rink at Cinnaminson's Memorial Park ready to be reopened in the near future. Find out how you can help.

Volunteers showed up once again this weekend to continue the rejuvenation of the Memorial Park hockey rink.

Several people turned out to help organizer Brian Lowy, a former coach in the defunct Cinnaminson Roller Hockey League, and his son Tyler make additional improvements to the rink Sunday, including scraping off and sweeping up the peeling paint, in preparation for a painter to come in and apply a new coat.

The elder Lowy said he plans to organize another volunteer event soon. He's looking for volunteers to help with:

  • Minor carpentry work to fix some deteriorated wood.
  • Two volunteers to work with the painter. Most likely to follow the sprayer with a roller and a brush.
  • Several people with cordless drills/screw guns to reattach the kick plates that go on the bottom of the boards inside the rink.
  • Anchoring the goal nets to prevent people from toppling the nets.

The most crucial improvement to the rink will be the $3,800 repairs to the playing surface, which is necessary for the rink to be reopened. Township committee OK'd a contract with Nickolaus Construction to make those repairs earlier this month.
