At the same time it crowns this year’s winner, the Miss New Jersey Pageant will honor its rich history by recognizing the winner of the 1964 pageant.

The pageant will recognize Miss New Jersey 1964, Susan Krasnomowitz-Garra, during the final night of the pageant on Saturday.

The Miss New Jersey Organization also announced the formation of the Miss New Jersey Alumni Association Thursday morning.

“We are happy to have found Susan Krasnomowitz -Garra, our 50th Anniversary Miss New Jersey to help launch our newly formed Alumni Organization,” Miss New Jersey 1995 Dena Blizzard said.  “She’s the perfect woman to speak about how this organization has changed her life. We are so excited to be honoring her this year!”

Krasnomowitz-Garra was crowned Miss New Jersey in Wildwood, New Jersey at the age of 19.  She was a resident of Fairlawn, New Jersey and held the title of Miss Paterson while competing at the pageant.

She says winning the pageant gave her few opportunities women were afforded in the 1960s. She traveled the state, spoke at events and gained a wealth of confidence throughout the course of her year as Miss New Jersey.

She said these experiences helped her develop the positive attributes that helped her throughout her life.

She is now married with four children and living in Haddonfield. She is a realtor and a home stager.

The pageant will also celebrate the following anniversaries:

* 10 year Erica Scanlon Harr- Miss New Jersey 2004;

* 20 Years Jennifer Makris Hill- Miss New Jersey 1994;

* 30 year Patricia La Terra Catroneo, Miss New Jersey 1984; and

* 40 year Elizabeth Bracken Thompson, Miss New Jersey 1974

The Alumni Association is made up of former Miss New Jersey Pageant winners. It is dedicated to working together to help support the pageant, provide scholarship incentives and maintain the history of the organization.

The association was formed a few months ago and has located 38 former winners. It is seeking all former Miss New Jersey winners to join the association.

There should be honor given to the 1964 State Championship basketball team as well, along with the CAL baseball champs. How could these things be overlooked 50 years later? Not ALL of the alumni involved in those events have left town, you know.
