PHOTOS: New Regal Theater in Moorestown Offers 'Extraordinary Experience'
Get a glimpse inside the new Regal Premium Experience at Moorestown Mall ahead of its grand opening Thursday.
Tired of driving to Cherry Hill, Philly or Marlton to catch a movie? Moorestown gets its theater back starting this week.
The new Regal Premium Experience (RPX) theater at Moorestown Mall opened Sunday for the first of three days of preview events benefiting local charities. The theater will hold a VIP event Wednesday, followed by the grand opening Thursday.
Jewel Gallagher, northern regional marketing manager for Regal Entertainment Group, said Sunday's turnout was unfortunately impacted by the weather.
"It seems like people made an effort," she said. "At the beginning, people were trying (to come). And they were so kind, because they were paying attention to the weather, and then they were leaving. But they were like, ‘We know this goes to charity, so we’re not going to ask for a refund.' That was very kind, and very much a part of this community."
Sunday's snowstorm notwithstanding, excitement for the new theater has been palpable. Gallagher said people were coming up Friday and Saturday, telling employees how eager they were for the theater to open.

The Moorestown RPX—one of only about 60 nationwide—is the first in New Jersey, according to Gallagher. The 12-screen theater offers an advanced moviegoing experience, with numerous features, including:
- Massive digital projection screens (the largest is 55 feet)
- Several 3D-capable screens
- Reclining leather seats
- Kiosks for automated ticket purchasing
The theater also offers a private room for birthday parties and other events. And though geared primarily toward children, adults have booked the room ($50 per hour) in the past for Twilight- or Sex and the City-themed parties, she said.
For its grand opening, the theater will be showing a double feature to mark the premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Part one—The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey—will be shown Thursday night, immediately followed by Smaug at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
Gallagher has been in the industry for many years, and offered a perspective on what a movie theater brings to a community.
"A movie theater in general offers an escape. We go to work. We come home. We deal with family problems. We deal with work problems. It’s the cheapest form of entertainment, and it offers you an escape for two hours," she said. "Having one in your community that can offer that, with all of these amenities, is a joy."

Visit Regal's website to get showtimes for the remaining charity days. Tickets for those days are $2, as well as $2 apiece for popcorn and soft drinks.
Regular showtimes aren't yet listed online, but can be found on Regal's website once they become available.
Matinees before noon will be $6.50 per ticket. Regular tickets prices are $12 for adults and $9 for children.
