7-11 To Open a Second Location in Cinnaminson

The old Exxon station on the corner of Highland and Route 130 will be a 7-11.

The Route 130 corridor will get a new 7-Eleven at the corner of Highland Avenue after zoning plans were recently approved.

Lehigh Gas Corporation plans to add the convenience store there once all environmental tests are finished and cleanup is done.

The store will be around 3,000 square feet and hold 18 parking spots.

“What we try to do with our vision on Route 130 is to provide an array of businesses that best serve the needs of residents,” said Committeeman Anthony Minniti, director of economic development.

The on Route 130 and Riverton Road will remain open for customers traveling on Route 130 north.

The new location, which was once home to an Exxon gas station, will also add a ratable to the township’s tax base.

“It also is a blighted property that’s being fixed up,” Minniti added. “The use is clearly a benefit to the community.”

However, there is no timeline yet as to when construction will start.

Lehigh Gas Corporation is based in Bethlehem, Pa. and holds partnerships with several gas station companies including Mobil, Hess and Gulf. However, the new 7-11 will not feature a gas station.

“This falls squarely in mind with what we envision having here,” Minniti said.

This is good news, keep up the great work.

Too bad WAWA didn't seize this opportunity.
Eddy Iannuzzi August 2, 2011 at 01:00 pm
I think Wawa tries to build a Super Wawa here. What happened to that?
Bridget August 2, 2011 at 01:29 pm
REALLY a Super Wawa would be so much better
Christina Paciolla (Editor) August 2, 2011 at 01:46 pm
Eddy, check out the article I wrote on that when we first launched.

How about doing something with the old gas staion at the corner of Willow Dr and rt 130 next to Bo's Wok....that has been an eye sore for 8-10yrs!!
john latvenas August 2, 2011 at 06:52 pm
7-11 stinks... WAWA is great!! Although it is great that 7-11 is going to take that spot instead of having a empty gas station.
M G August 8, 2011 at 12:04 pm
No 7-11 please! I would rather a WAWA!
Katie Scott August 8, 2011 at 06:22 pm
Okay, here we go again....First it was talks of the WaWa, Now a 7-11???!!!! Really, is there nothing else that can go there besides another convenience store???!!!! The 7-11 that is currently in Cinnaminson is right down the street from this possible location. I totally agree with most of everyone's posts in regards to WAWA-Yes, it is the best!LOL However, I don't feel that we need another one of these either, sorry to say. Personally, I would like to see built in Cinnaminson, a Wegmans. The only closest one to us is in Mount Laurel-not exactly around the corner for us, is it?
Bridget August 8, 2011 at 06:27 pm
Well IMO we do not need another grocery store either ...
Katie Scott August 8, 2011 at 06:36 pm
Bridget-I do agree with you on that.....Just trying to think of something that would be useful to our residents. Not only help generate our towns income, but that could possibly help with those that seek employment. Maybe a grocery store is not the best idea, but hopefully something will come our way that would satisfy all:)

I have to chuckle at some of the comments! I remember the whole hysteria created by the gas station owners supported by steve fowles & friends over the prospect of a superwawa coming to town. Now, people are complaining that a superwawa ISN'T coming to town?? lol!!! Well, I guess we should thank the Fowles gang and our local gas station owners for wawa feeling unwelcome. With all the terrible things they were writing and saying is it any wonder they don't want to come to Cinnaminson? I'm not the biggest fan of 7-11, but isn't that a whole lot better than an abandonded gas station? Sometimes I think people just love to complain no matter what. Oh well. I think it's fine and am happy another vacant site is being cleaned up

Yes it is funny to hear all the support for Wawa after it was so stated that store would ruin our town. Hey, here is a quick lesson in free market enterprises for you from a retired business owner. Township governing bodies do not control what businesses come to town - even though they take praise whenever they can - and can’t restrict businesses except in certain specifically controlled zoned areas like redevelopment zones. An example of this was the successful blocking of adult toy store in our town! So if a business wants to come to town, they can unless specifically restricted. It is not the local politicians but rather commercial realtors, the small business association and the major franchises that target towns by using specific geographic indicators that will work for certain types of businesses. So you can ask for a book store, Wegmans, or high end restaurant all you want but unfortunately data shows our area simply does not support these these types of businesses. In this market, we should show our support with open our arms to anyone who wants to open a business in our town! I say welcome, 7 Eleven, Bottom Dollar, Sonic, and anyone else who wants to open a business in this horrible economy.
Steve Fowles August 9, 2011 at 04:48 am
Really Linda? That's Pathetic! Show us where "I" said or did anything you are implying. But I guess people that don't know, will just read your comment and automatically believe it, right? Nice try.
Nancy VanTwistern August 9, 2011 at 12:21 pm
Yes, yes, yes, I agree with the poster that suggested a Wegmans in Cinnaminson. Although it is further away, lthere are certain things that "I" prefer to buy at Wegmans...the prices are often better than SR and other stores. BUT, I am one of those 'shoppers' and, fortunately, have the time to 'shop around' and 'compare'....many do not!!
Ken August 9, 2011 at 12:29 pm
@ Jack, very well "spoken." It's nice to dream of the kind of business you'd like to see in a certain location, but unless you're gonna start that business yourself, you're gonna have to take what you get! You're right, we should show our support to anyone who wants to open a business in town as well as to those businesses that already exist here. Buy american if at all possible, even if it costs a few cents or a few dollars more. Shop locally and we will hopefully have a few less vacant eyesores. That being said, poorly run businesses with terrible customer service inevitably wind up closing.
linda k August 9, 2011 at 12:43 pm
Please explain how a Wegmans would fit on that site?? It doesn't look big enough. I don't know that anything other than another gas station (been there didn't work) or maybe a fast food restaurant could fit on such a small piece of land. I think a convenience store is about all that could go there
linda k August 9, 2011 at 01:01 pm
Ken, I agree 100% that we should support Cinnaminson businesses, but am concerned when you preface it with "buy american". I think we should support ALL Cinnaminson businesses, not just ones that we "believe" as being "american owned". First, we are a nation of immigrants. Most are here legally, are hardworking, and pay their taxes. If they are taking the risk of opening a business and working to better our town, they deserve our support. I read on here where someone said the owners of one of our businesses "weren't american" and was appropriately taken to task for his comment. I hope you're not going down that same path. But we definitely agree on the support your local businesses.
Jack Smith August 9, 2011 at 01:19 pm
Thank you Ken and right back at you with your comment to buy American. Linda K, this is not to be confused with a bigoted comment like “the business in no longer American owned” in response to a question about why the Wine Cellar doesn’t fly the American flag anymore. Buying American simply means supporting products and businesses that are American made or owned. Last I checked, most immigrant businesses owners are Americans and proud of it. As a retired business owner, I would also add to support your local merchants as much as possible. We’re all in this together. At Nancy and Katie, I love Wegman’s too but it will never happen on Rt. 130. From what I hear, Bottom Dollar is a great store with great prices and will certainly help to employ some more people in our area.

HI Patchers! Just a quick reminder: Everyone just make sure the comments are left to this story and this issue only. Thanks a bunch! Christina

DUH whomever answered my post and mentioned Wiegmans being too big for the site....All I meant was, at any site, I'd prefer a Wiegmans.....didn't even think about that particular site....
Jen Lucano March 16, 2012 at 07:52 pm
How about a place that our children can go to; painting studio, beading, pottery, crafts, or affordable ice cream, I take my children into Collingwood where they have all that stuff and much more.
Nancy VanTwistern March 16, 2012 at 09:08 pm
I have a neighbor who really likes Bottom dollar as finds great bargains their...have to stop there more!
Frank Szymkowski March 16, 2012 at 11:00 pm
I think a 7-11 will be a fine fit there.. Sure beats a vacant gas station and something we can all use.. Way to go Anthony!!
T Jones March 17, 2012 at 03:12 pm
We should not be saying no to any business that wants to come to our town. For most of my shopping and dining I have to go outside of Cinnaminson....usually to Mt. Laurel, Moorestown, or Cherry Hill. The new Shop Rite shopping center has helped, but Cinnaminson is still lacking some things like a Friday's, Applebees, etc. Too bad we will never get one due to the Liquor license rules.
T Jones March 17, 2012 at 09:00 pm
Also- I hope they can put in a highly visible crosswalk there. It's like a drag strip from Shop-Rite to Bayards and we don't need to see kids trying to dodge traffic to get to 7-11.

We were totally disappointed at the Palmyra Council Meeting last night. The ordinance requiring theRead More Inspection, Registration, and Licensing of Residential Rental Properties was opposed by many concerned citizens. Concerns were stated and questions asked, but few were answered or addressed! I still do not know if the NJ State code supercedes this ordinance, since no one addressed my concerns. The legality of this ordinance was questioned and it was mentioned that similar laws have been challenged in other towns and invalidated by the NJ courts. Why did the council not form a committee with those landlords that expressed a willingness to work together to come to an acceptable compromise and passage of an ordinance that is legal and for the good of all of Palmya?
Mystery Diner June 18, 2013 at 10:11 pm
I actually agree with most of what you say. If they face a court challenge and lose, they are dumberRead More than I thought. My point is that something has to be done. I feel that inaction is unacceptable. I literally have neighbors moving/trying to move because of 1 or 2 rental properties. Garbage on the lawn. Garbage in the street. Lawn only gets cut twice a year. Broken glass in the street. Multiple cars taking up space in front of homeowner's homes. Junk cars leaking oil in the streets. Broken porches, railings and windows. The drugs. The drugs. They should enforce current codes! The police should do their jobs. I hope that these new rules don't hurt innocent people, but some landlords have shown that they don't give a damn about the community that their "investments" are in.
Phyllis Blackeby June 18, 2013 at 10:26 pm
I only wish that they would use the laws on the books. If 800 violations have been written sinceRead More April, then why do they need to pass this ordinance and have excessive fees and hurt me the small landlord who just spent over $7,000 fixing up my apartment. Palmyra has a large budget deficit, is this ordinance how the Council hopes to remedy the budget problem- $125. at a time?

Where?

There are fireworks in the 300 block of Wayne Drive, sometimes at 3 a.m.

This is great, we send our kids to school to read write and do math and yet when they have to putRead More things down for writing something for a college admissions we have to send them to professionals for help....So in esscence we are wasting our tax money and just providing teachers with a salary....No wonder the USA is in trouble...If its not on an I phone we cannot do it....Food for thought....
