Cinnaminson Woman to Reopen Riverton Yoga Studio

Lynn Horan will take over for current owner Beth Filla in April.

Yogawood in Riverton will close by the end of next month, but a Cinnaminson woman will take the spot over by the beginning of April.

Lynn Horan, a yoga instructor and student at Yogawood, will be the new owner.

“I just felt like it’s so wonderful there and in a great community and I wanted to see it continue,” Horan said.

Current owner Beth Filla announced in November plans to close the Riverton location and focus on the other studio’s location in Collingswood. Horan stepped in shortly after.

“I’m going to give it a swing,” she said.

The longtime Cinnaminson resident and mother of Catherine, 24, and Brendan, 23, spent a few years in Chicago recently but after moving back, she joined Yogawood last year to practice and teach.

“It’s a really nice yoga community with wonderful teachers and wonderful students,” Horan said.

Right now, she’s working on a website for the spot—which will be called Yogatree—and a schedule. But she wants to reach out to the community with help on that.

“Any studio, you change with the community’s needs,” she said. “So I’m hoping to tap into that and have some ideas be provided by the community.”

Some ideas include a Friday noontime yoga class, a Friday afterwork class and a morning class for parents who drop their kids off at school.

“I have a lot of ideas,” Horan said.

Other ideas for classes include neo yoga, yoga/Pilates mix and classes aimed at maturing bodies or veterans.

Horan will take over April 1.

I would love it if Yogatree also provided Pilates classes as well. That, to me, would be the perfect mix. I would love to join as long as there were classes to accommodate work schedules Good luck and please keep us posted.

I would love a class that I could attend in the morning that provides child care for my little ones!

Im so happy someone is going to take it over because there arent many yoga studios around our area... A Pilates mix would be great! How about beginner yoga classes for people who aren't too familiar with all of yoga's poses? Or a prenatal/pregnancy yoga class- so many people complain that there aren't enough local workouts for pregnant woman? Also, don't forget about later classes for working women too! Good luck with the grand re-opening- ill be excited to try it out!!!

Would love to see more beginner classes, especially on the weekends. Yogawood only offered on tues and thurs nights which can be tough if you have little ones.

I agree, beginner class or be more sensitive to people who are new or out of practice. I went once and felt uncomfortable bc I couldn't hold this or that pose. Haven't been back simply because of that feeling. I've done shivananda yoga 10 years ago and it was very relaxing knowing that I was not expected to do something my body was not ready for.

Tia Kwan do and yoga are both very beneficial for those who have fibromyalgia. Reaching out to the fibro community may prove to be very helpful for both parties. You may also want to look into Insurance co. Health coverage they may cover the classes for those who have fibromyalgia. They may even want to promote the classes. Just a suggestion.

Thank you very much for your suggestions and support! Yogatree will strive to offer a variety of gentle, restorative and vinyasa yoga classes with classes available early morning through evening and on weekends. It is helpful to hear the support for pilates, and your suggestions for making sure beginners, seniors and those returning to yoga are comfortable and well served by the schedule. As a teacher and student of yoga, I've seen the wide variety of benefits and will strive to serve various health needs like the ones you have highlighted. Yogatree will be successful if it grows as part of our community. Thank you for your input, please continue to let me know how we can serve you. Looking forward to seeing you all soon, Lynn H.

Please no pilates. If i wanted a pilates class, I would take one. It hasn't been overly successful at YW and I cant see it being successful in Riv. Personally I wouldn't attend the classes that were a mix of both. Also, please offer a 6PM class Mon through Fri. I wouldn't mind if some were 60 or 75 mins in order to accommodate two classes on certain nights. I really like and am up for the challenge. Knowing the community at the Riv studio, I have a feeling that if the classes are gentle you will start losing those devoted to a vigorous practice. I understand that everyone needs to start somewhere but offering a space that does not judge would be the best approach. As most yogis will tell you, once they are on their mats, they really dont see what others are doing on theirs.

When are you going to have a website and schedule? The closing date for Yogawood is fast approacing and it would be great to see the schedule for the new studio.

I'd love to see a mommy and me class. I have a 4 month old and travel to collingswood for class but would love to have a class in town!

Now I know more about this space that I have been driving by for a few years. I was interested in yoga but the darkness of the window dressing and invisible, interior lights kind of put me off. May want to address that issue if you see fit. Just my little opinion :--)
