Popular Riverton Ice Cream Shop Up for Sale

Nellie Bly's owner Maureen Brzycki is selling the Riverton ice cream parlor, but hopes a local entrepreneur will continue dishing out scoops on Main Street.

The future appears to be uncertain for a favorite ice cream parlor in Riverton.

Over the weekend, Maureen Brzycki, owner of Nellie Bly’s Ice Cream Parlor, announced on the business’s Facebook page that she is selling the business and will step away at the end of the season.

Brzycki cited spending more time with her newborn daughter, Coco, as a big reason for selling the shop.

“We love this business with all we have inside of us,” she said in her Facebook post. “It was our second home, but life's circumstances have changed drastically for us. We have someone new soaking up all of our love and attention and we don't want to miss a moment with her, so we hope you all understand.”

Maureen Brzycki purchased Nellie Bly’s from its original owners, Maureen and Mark Miller, in 2009. For the past four years, the ice cream parlor has been a very popular spot for birthday parties, fundraisers and other events. Sitting on the corner of Broad and Main and just steps away from the NJ Transit Riverline station, it was an easy location for many to get to as well.

Rumors circulated about Nelly Bly's potential closure for the past few months. While the Brzycki confirmed that she is selling the ice cream shop, they added that they hope someone in the community will take it over and put in the time necessary to keep it successful within Riverton’s Main Street district.

"Our hope is for someone who loves this community as much as we do to take on this sweet little store and keep it open for all of us to enjoy," Bryzcki said in her post.

On Tuesday afternoon, Nellie Bly’s was open as usual for business, but with one big addition in the window: a for sale sign with a phone number for any prospective buyers.

For those looking to grab one more sundae before the parlor closes, there’s still time. Brzycki stated on her Facebook post that the parlor would remain open through the end of the season, which concludes at the end of October.
