New Food Chain Moving Into Cinnaminson

Bottom Dollar Food is bringing its colorfully coded shopping experience to the township, while offering lower prices.

With the and Portobello Markets, Cinnaminson residents have been hard-pressed to find nearby stores to load up on groceries.

But, slated for December, discount grocer Bottom Dollar Food will open in the Main Line Shopping Center on Route 130, confirmed Bottom Dollar spokeswoman Tenisha Waldo. Since last winter, construction crews have been renovating the space vacated by the former produce store.

Bottom Dollar Food is a subsidiary of Delhaize America and is run by Food Lion LLC in North Carolina. The brightly colored lime green and orange stores average 18,000 square feet and boast low prices of a limited-selection of both national brands and private label products displayed in extra wide aisles. Color-coded pricing easily identifies the product prices and a quick reference tool for easy savings. Self-serve displays and no bakery help to keep prices competitive.

Bottom Dollar swiftly entered the area last year opening 19 stores in Pennsylvania. The Cinnaminson store will join New Jersey stores open in Marlton and Turnersville, with plans underway to open stores in Edgewater Park and Bordentown early next year.

“We look for energetic employees who have a passion for assisting customers,” said Waldo about the 30-35 associates each store hires.

Asked about the company’s rapid growth in the area, Waldo said the company looks for the best opportunities to serve local communities.

“It is a great potential for Bottom Dollar because it is an underserved area,” said Waldo.

By donating to local organizations, holding special events and offering promotional reusable Bottom Dollar Food bags filled with products, the company connects to the community and its local consumers, adds Waldo.

Terms of Bottom Dollar Food’s occupancy were that improvements such as new lights, curbing, sidewalks and re-asphalting be completed in the shopping center.

“I made a promise to the residents of Cinnaminson that we would get these strip malls shaped up,” said Anthony Minniti, director of economic development, during an earlier interview, referring to an ordinance passed in 2004 that states all landlords must refurbish their strip malls in Cinnaminson before new tenants lease space.

Minniti added that the idea is, if improvements are made, good tenants will want to occupy space in Cinnaminson.

“This is all about stimulating business for the township,” said Minniti.

Dancingdad. I noticed you just joined Patch yesterday so welcome. I would hope that as a business owner, you would know better than to take blog comments seriously – especially during election season. You see here in Cinnaminson there is a group of malcontents that CRY FOUL and create new screen names daily to try to sway public opinion. Not that I am accusing you of doing that or anything ~ just saying~. What is your business by the way??? I sure you will see if you research through proper channels that Cinnaminson is a great place to own a business, as long as you maintain your property! I hope you reconsider
Tim D September 15, 2011 at 05:36 PM
dancindad, if this is where you are going to base your decision on whether or not you open a business in Cinnaminson I wish you well in your search of a town that does not have a SMALL percentage of the population unhappy with the township. While I am in no position to speak for all off Cinnaminson I for one would not hesitate. If you want to base you decision on a group of anonymous people go for it, and see where you can find the perfect town. If you are really considering it I would suggest speaking to some of the recent businesses that opened here, get the facts. However my feeling is you are just another anonymous poster looking to stir the pot.
Tim D September 16, 2011 at 06:38 PM
Do you seriously think it is somebody trying to open a business in Cinnaminson? Why is it you questioning and not the dancindad? Why do you feel the need to question me? Why if he is wouldn't he just move on to another town, with his real name, wouldn't that lend more credibility to his story? So that when he opened in another town he could come back and thumb his nose at Cinnaminson? Sorry, that was just to easy to spot as someone making up and account to post something that is a hot topic and a chance to take a shot at township committee, so yes I felt it was necessary.
Tim D September 16, 2011 at 06:43 PM
Also, is playing nice anonymously posting that you heard a business owner was "leaned" on? When you flat out admit you didn't know if it were true or not!!!!Walk the talk resident, maybe people will follow your lead.

Dancingdad, Patch is a great resource for those looking at Cinnaminson for their business location.First, I would put "Minniti" in the search section and read about all the wonderful business advancements Cinnaminson has made. You'll read for yourself what a terrific job he's done with Route 130.I would stick with the articles since they're actually NEWS stories and ignore the comments. If you decide to come to Cinnaminson you will quickly learn about the small band of outcasts that post negativity. Ignore them, all the rest of us do.If you go back in the Patch archives you will read about Whistler's Inn and Hathaway's, two longtime businesses who have grown and are about to invest big money in expansion projects. They speak very positively of our Township Committee's efforts to help keep them in town. Another big business is Sea Box.You can read about them in the archives too.Moorestown and Mount Laurel wanted them but Cinnaminson won and they built a brand new facility bringing tax dollars and jobs to town. They also mentioned our township committee as a reason they chose Cinnaminson. If you go back far enough, I believe there is a story about Wal Mart also expanding in Cinnaminson. The evidence is overwhelming. Our Committee does a great job attracting new businesses and helping existing ones grow and thrive right here. Finally, it would be a great idea to change your screenname to your business so you can promote yourself! We residents are very supportive of local business!

Dancidad, don't mind the trolls on this website. You stepped in the middle of left and right extreme's throwing things at each other. No matter what article is posted on the "patch" they turn it into a political discussion about who was wrong. Hardly ever have anything positive, constructive or useful to say. Just whinning...don't worry though, they don't come during the daylight, they just sit here and complain :)
Silvia September 17, 2011 at 02:05 PM
Oh resident, the only thing that is true is that you and your old friend Suzanne aka-concerned town person have been throwing mud for months now and getting real people like Mr. Poinsett all worked up for nothing. Now you want us all to think that you want to sing kumbaya and play nice in the sandbox! Im not buying but think we all agree it would be a pleasant change from your norm. Let's see how long you walk the talk.
cinndeception September 17, 2011 at 02:09 PM
CINNDECEPTION-Interesting comment "resident". The question Tim posed was to "danicndad", not you. So the only way you could verify that danicndad's statement was "true" was if you informed dancindad about that so called "leaned upon" businessowner. Of course, maybe you just forgot what screenname you were posting under and neglected to sign off as "Resident" and resign in as "Dancindad"! CINNDECEPTION-A new political philosophy, neither Democrat or(sic) Republican where simply saying something is true makes it so, no proof needed, just take CINNDECEPTION'S word for it!
kenda g September 17, 2011 at 02:42 PM
To Cinndeception, OK, we get it already, the candidates and supporters of Cinndependence have a truth telling problem. I appreciate you fact checking and pointing out their consistently inaccurate comments, but we're all smart enough to see they either dishonest or just aren't very smart. Love they screen name though, very witty!! Let up on them a little, they don't need you to embarass them, they do it to themselves
Dorothy Harris September 17, 2011 at 04:39 PM
paula. i agree 100% with you. all this hostility turns me off. i understand the challangers want to make the current guys and gal look bad to get a vote but enough is enough already. ive only been living in cinnaminson a short time now since moving in with my daughter after my stroke but i must say i really like it here. so do most people i talk to. i only wish i moved here years ago to raise my family.
Dorothy Harris September 17, 2011 at 05:43 PM
i agree but as a newby to the town, it just seems to me that if the current officals are engaging which i hope they arent, they are only trying to defend themselves. i have been seeing alot of articles and the attacks have all been started by the supporters of the challengers. i will agree with you that Mr. Lunn seems very nice and qualified. i loved his 9/11 cemermony and so did my grandson who is a scout. enjoy your weekend..
kenda g September 17, 2011 at 05:56 PM
Paula, first, I agree that the current officials should be judged by what they've done as much as the challengers should be judged by what they haven't. But before we cannonize Saint Lunn, let's not forget the extremely negative campaigns he's run in the past. He and his running mates engaged in just as much mudslinging and name calling as the newcomers. Mr. Lunn organized a protest AGAINST the town knocking down the motels! How great an idea was that? He tried to stop redevelopment of the Caldor center and traffic improvements. Cinnaminson has said no to Lunn 4 or 5 times already and now he's being dishonest again, claiming to be an "independent" when he's been a professional partisan politician his whole life. As for being qualified to do redevelopment? Look at Barrington and Cinnaminson and you tell me how good a job he really did. The difference between the newcomers and Lunn is that Lunn is smart enough not to come out and make a fool of himself by criticizing people that do good work. Lunn learned that lesson the hard way after taking the opposite approach in several elections and being beaten over and over again. Fowles and Gertie will likely learn the same way. Cinnaminson residents are not the fools that Fowles and Gertie think they are (and Lunn used to) But you and I agree, put a platform out, not nonsense

Here we go again the last several post have nothing to do with the new store. Can't we stay on what topic pls.
Linda DiMassimo September 17, 2011 at 07:54 PM
I find that sad paula.

Robert, I rarely delete posts and when I do, it's because they are in violation of our terms of service and that user receives an e-mail by me. As far as your suggestion to show "flagged" or "deleted by user," that's not really my call, since we have a design team and web programmers, but I can certainly pass your suggestion along to those at AOL. Thanks.
Tim D September 18, 2011 at 04:36 PM
Ok, Linda D. I have a question for you. You want only positive comments, which I think is a great idea. Please do not take this as an attack on your attempt to clean this up, it is only a question. But what should/can be done about somebody that posts anonymously a very serious comment accusing someone of "leaning" on a local business with no prove, or no name to be held accountable? You suggest, "children play nice" should people not ask for proof? Should people allow this to just be posted and not reply? This is serious stuff, and the problem is there is a faction of this population that believes EVERY word people say on here. So I ask, what is the suggested resolution? Leave potentially False, very DAMAGING information to be posted without asking for proof? I don't know if this is true or not, but how can someone be allowed to post anonymously and not be held accountable? I actually think PATCH needs to step in here and delete these posts until someone provides evidence of this information. I think it is irresponsible of this site to allow such damaging information to be posted without evidence or the person's real name to held accountable for their statement. That is liable accusations, that can be very damaging to a person and they should be held accountable if true and if not the person making the accusation should be held accountable.
Linda DiMassimo September 18, 2011 at 06:25 PM
Tim D I don't have all the answers I wish I did. But all these fake names, and sorry people who don't put their full names trash one another is out of control. Christina has said in the past if you have a conversation do it in the q & a section. I really would like people to stay on track and be nice. It is ok to disagree without being mean.

My 80 year old Mother who lives near Marlton loves Bottom Dollar because the store is smaller in size yet still maintains a great selection. The competitive prices are a bonus for her. She's not physically able to walk around a supermarket the size of our ShopRite, but feels very comfortable with one the size of Bottom Dollar. Hopefully, our residents will give the new store a chance!
Alison Perry January 04, 2012 at 09:35 PM
Happy New Year Christina! Have you heard anything about when the Bottom Dollar store is going to open? Just curious!
Christina Paciolla (Editor) January 04, 2012 at 09:44 PM
Hey Alison, happy new year to you. I'll get in touch with the owner and let you know, thanks for asking.

How can someone apply for a job at this Bottom Dollar location?
Alison Perry January 05, 2012 at 09:00 PM
Eileen - I checked out the company's website - www.bottomdollar.com. They have a spot on there where you can apply for a job at a store in your area: https://hrweb.foodlion.com/ATS/ATS/JobBoard/custom/Ats_Gateway.aspx Good Luck!
silvana January 06, 2012 at 04:12 PM
Where can apply for a job? I don't fund the application's!
SRDK February 06, 2012 at 09:22 PM
Are we any closer to seeing this store open?
Catherine Laughlin February 06, 2012 at 10:39 PM
The Bottom Dollar spokesperson still doesn't have an official opening date. I will keep you advised when I hear something.
Alison Perry February 07, 2012 at 03:41 PM
Bruce March 02, 2012 at 11:50 PM
so Alison...did you get the job at Bottom Dollar?
Bruce March 02, 2012 at 11:51 PM
Now Bill.....I don't want to see you taking advantage of any of those bargains at the new Bottom Dollar store....Make sure you drive out of town and spend your money where it does us the most good....like Moorsetown! you are a moron!
Alison Perry March 05, 2012 at 04:15 PM
@Bruce - I didn't apply for a job at Bottom Dollar - I merely supplied a link for someone who asked since I was already on their site. Just trying to help out a Cinnaminson neighbor!
