Photo Gallery: Now Open—First Day at Sonic Drive-In

The fast food restaurant is open for business.

The lights are on, the burgers are hot and the servers are skating around the parking lot at Sonic. The long-awaited drive-in style fast food restaurant .

The day was a little slow, but once word is out, business will be booming, said Joshua Barnard, general manager of the Cinnaminson location.

At around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, however, the parking lot was packed.

Servers have been training for the past two weeks and about 123 have been hired for the Cinnaminson restaurant alone. There are about 45 employees working each shift.

Barnard said several local high school students got jobs at Sonic, including those from surrounding areas like Moorestown, Delran, Riverside, Pennsauken, Camden and more.

"We want a big family here," Barnard said. "We're a bunch of locals trying to make a living."

Sonic boasts 16 drive-in stalls, a patio for outdoor eating and a drive-thru window. 

They are open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday to Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Happy hour is 2 to 4 p.m. every day, with half-priced drinks, excluding ice cream. Breakfast is served all day.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with township officials will happen Friday, March 30 at 10 a.m.
