Thanksgiving Goes to the Dogs

Even four-legged friends should enjoy turkey today.

Stella and Oliver can’t wait for Thanksgiving dinner. Later today, like millions across the country, the two will join dozens of others to enjoy roasted turkey, green beans, carrots and more.

But not all will top it off with a sweet potato biscuit.

Stella, a boxer mix, and Oliver, a golden mix, will be spending the holiday at today while their owners travel for Thanksgiving.

But, the dogs there—and even a few cats—still get a delicious dinner on Thanksgiving.

“We know they are away from their family members, so we want to make it feel as though they are home,” said Kristin Korenkiewicz, manager at Best Friends in Cinnaminson.

For the fifth straight year, workers at Best Friends across the country will oven-roast a juicy turkey and prepare special turkey and rice dog food and side dishes for the furry friends boarded there this holiday.

Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Day dinner in Cinnaminson, that location will donate bagged food to the Camden County Animal Shelter.

“Pets are family members too, and if you have your pet home with you on Thanksgiving, you’re going to be sharing some treats from the table with your dog,” said Deb Bennetts, spokesperson for Best Friends. “We decided to offer a holiday dinner for the pets here.”

Best Friends even offers holiday dinners during the Christmas season for pets that board there.

All day Wednesday, the turkey roasts in the lobby in Cinnaminson by Chef Josh.

“The animals love it,” Korenkiewicz said. “We have a great time with it. We have some repeat customers that come every year to have the meal.”

This Thanksgiving, the Cinnaminson location is almost at capacity and nearly all dog owners signed up to give their pets the Thanksgiving dinner.
