Triboro Site's Future Unknown Following Demolition

The vacant former auto dealership came down last week, but Cinnaminson Mayor Ben Young says they haven't heard from the developer since last fall.

More than six months after a developer pitched plans to turn the Triboro site on Route 130 into a mixed-use property, the vacant former auto dealership has been demolished.

Mayor Ben Young said demolition of the building itself only took a few days to complete. By the end of last week, the longstanding former auto dealership—which Young estimated was built in the mid-1960s—was reduced to a pile of rubble.

That doesn't mean demolition is entirely complete however, Young added, and noted some of the complicating factors that might tie up development of the property: the fact that it straddles both Cinnaminson and Delran, its state highway frontage (necessitating Department of Transportation involvement), and the large water supply line running underneath the eight-acre property.

The property has been vacant for more than five years.

Township officials haven't received any new information regarding the property since Kerrim C. Jivani, a Monmouth County-based developer, presented a "rough sketch" of his plans for it last fall, said Young.

Those preliminary plans called for the construction of 50,000 square feet of retail and office space over six new buildings, including a Starbucks, a Chipotle and a bank.

Patch was unable to reach Jivani Monday. Calls to project engineers Stout & Caldwell were not immediately returned Monday.

The township awaits the submission of official site plans, but in the meantime, Young said, "It's nice to see that building get demolished, and hopefully (the project) is starting to move forward."

Because of the site's location—at the intersection of Taylors Lane and Route 130, at the township's northern border—it's a critical element in the redevelopment of Cinnaminson.

"It's the gateway coming into Cinnaminson from the north," Young said.
