65 Million Year Old Turtle Found!

A 65 Million year old turtle fossil was found in Sewell, Gloucester County.

Imagine my excitement when I clicked on the science news this morning, and saw an article about a turtle fossil found in South Jersey. You can read the full story and look at the pictures here . I'm going to contact Drexel to see if I can talk to Zack Boles, the Ph.D. student who made the discovery. From what I've read and seen, this seems to confirm what I tell people in my turtle talks: turtles have been around since before the dinosaurs, and have changed very little.

I must say, that the discovery of this fossilized turtle in Gloucester County makes me proud to be known as the NJ Turtle Lady, and I can't wait to learn more about this particular fossil and its species, along with whatever other info I can unearth (palentology, digging, unearth...get it? pretty witty, eh?) about the history of turtles in New Jersey, from prehistoric times through the present. I'll keep you posted!
