Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The Turtle Lady turns Leprechaun at a local watering hole's St. Patrick's Day party.

No politics today, I've been having too much fun! Many of you know that I dress up for every holiday, and St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorites. Palmyra schools had a half-day Friday, so I went to work in full leprechaun mode. The high school kids (I was subbing for the high school art teacher) caught on quickly when asked if they believed in leprechauns when they realized that if they said yes they got a gold foil wrapped chocolate coin!

The best part of the day was going over to the pre-school classes at the Delaware Avenue school. They had told me the day before that there was no such thing as leprechauns. So I waited by the classroom window, and popped up only when the kids were looking. They giggled and squealed  every time they saw me, and laughed when I hid from their teacher. They seemed a little disappointed when they walked out to the school bus and realized it was just Miss Cindy.

I spent about a half hour waving at passers-by up at Long's Automotive this afternoon, and got lots of smiles and waves in return. A couple of people were a bit surprised (or frightened) when I ran up to their car and tossed them a few chocolate coins while they waited at the light.

The real fun came tonight (Saturday night) - since I had read the Patch article about St. Patrick's Day activities, and had a leprechaun outfit, I headed over to Whistler's Inn with my husband. I'm not sure if he ducked out because he doesn't drink or because he was embarrassed, but since he promised to come back for me, I didn't mind.

There were quite a bunch of revelers in attendance, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The contests were a hoot! Host/DJ Seth kept things rolling along, but he wasn't much better than I was at remembering all of the winners' names (so we did what we could with the captions for the attached pix- if you know the names of anyone in the photos, please post in the comments!).

The Irish Limbo contest was one by... a nice girl whose name we can't remember
The Limerick contest was a tie between Steve and the funny guy with the tiny hat taped to his head, who told not one, but two, really dirty limericks!
Scott won the Irish jig, but had some tough competition in the two energetic ladies who challenged him. And then came the leprechaun contest...

I kind of felt bad when all of the people decked out in their greenery got a look at me and backed out. There was just one other leprechaun contestant besides me - he was very good! but graciously conceded to me on bended knee. Thank you, Jimbo! I asked him if he had anything on under his kilt, and was momentarily terrifed when he stepped back to flip it up - thank goodness he revealed only his shamrock boxers! (a little frightening as well!)

In the end, it was a winning evening all around - good food, good drinks, lots of fun, friendly people, and the $100 Whistler's gift certificate prize was like the whipped cream on an Irish coffee!
