Gardening Resources

Here is a list of online resources I've used in the last few months relating to gardening. Maybe some of them will help you.

In preparation for gardening this year I've used a lot of different resources. In this post I wanted to share some of them.

Community Garden Project via Rotary - This article was a large part of the inspiration behind the Cinnaminson Community Gardeners. I personally emailed and called John to discuss the project. He was a great resource. He provided me with site plans, materials lists and his general observations when implementing the project.

Crows Woods Gardeners Website - This is a very successful group of community gardeners in Haddonfield. Robin Raab, a past president of the group, was a great resource. We met on one occasion at their community garden (4x the size of our community garden at Extension Park) and we've talked many more times over the phone. Their website is very intuitive and has some great articles written by their members.

Burpee Planting Calendar - My wife and I visited this site often to help plan our community garden plot. Our goal was to try and have fruit/produce from our plot in phases throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall. The charts on this site were a big help.

Longwood Gardens - Longwood Gardens' website has articles, links and if you're agressive enough, classes for you to take. One of our Cinnaminson residents, who is also a member of the Cinnaminson Community Gardeners, has been through Longwood's certification program.

Rutgers Cooperative Extension - Rutgers has so much to offer the New Jersey gardener.  Similar to Longwood, Rutgers offers a "Master Gardener" certification. Recently Master Gardeners were at the Burlington County Farmers Market to answer questions. Rutgers also is a resource for soil testing, articles, order seeds, etc.

- We are really lucky to have a lot of great, local gardening centers, but my wife and I are always gravitating to Dare's. They have great prices on plants, the staff is very knowledgable and they're local. When in doubt, always go to the local gardening center...they want to help.
