Donate Unserviceable Flags at Township Building

The flags will be given to the American Legion post for proper disposal.

A box to donate unserviceable American flags will be set up from now until Veterans Day at the Cinnaminson Township building, Mayor Don Brauckmann announced at Monday night's township committee meeting.

Unserviceable flags are flags that are frayed, ripped or have other damage. The donated flags will be given to the local American Legion post, where Brauckmann is a member, and disposed of properly.

According to the American Legion website, unserviceable flags should not be reused or recycled.

"The flag...should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning," the website says.

Many American Legion posts hold ceremonies to dispose of the unserviceable flags on June 14—Flag Day—each year.

The box will be set up at the township building until Nov. 11.
