Free Skin Cancer Screening, Foreclosure Forum Offered

Mortgage Foreclosure Forum to Be Held Thursday
County homeowners facing mortgage foreclosure or dealing with financial and credit issues that could result in foreclosure can attend a mortgage foreclosure forum from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 23.

It will take place at the Willingboro Kennedy Center, 429 J.F. Kennedy Way, Willingboro, NJ 08046.  

Speakers with state, county, federal and nonprofit agencies that specialize in financial counseling will provide homeowners with step-by-step instructions on what they can do to avert losing their homes. In addition, Burlington County Consumer Affairs Director Renee Borstad will address mortgage rescue “scams” that desperate homeowners need to avoid.

A question/answer session follows brief presentations by the speakers.

Aside from Consumer Affairs, other participants include the N.J. Superior Court; the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development; the Burlington County Board of Social Services; and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Delaware Valley, a Cherry Hill-based nonprofit organization that assists homeowners in foreclosure prevention.

Joel Finkelstein, Team Leader for the Civil Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, will address the State’s Judiciary Foreclosure Mediation Program, through which court-trained mediators endeavor to assist homeowners in foreclosure reach arrangements with their lenders.

Other speakers will include: Leo F. Vanderbilt, Under Sheriff of the Burlington County Sheriff's Office, who will speak on the foreclosure process; Stephanie Bittner, with Consumer Credit Counseling, who will discuss refinance assistance and personal financial counseling; Stephen D’Agostino, from Beneficial Bank, who will speak about short sales; and, Silas Townsend, Burlington County Community Action Program (BCCAP).

County Offers Free Skin Cancer Screening Saturday
The Burlington County Health Department and the Burlington County Cancer Coalition will offer free skin cancer screenings Saturday, June 25, as part of the "Choose Your Cover 2011" campaign.

The event will be held at the Farmer’s Market, located at the Burlington County Agricultural Center on Centerton Road in Moorestown from 9 a.m. to noon. It will include free skin cancer screenings and information on skin cancer prevention with some skin cancer prevention give-a-ways.
