Friday Is National Wear Red Day

The county's health department is trying to raise awareness for heart disease.

Community members and county employees are being encouraged to wear red Friday on “National Wear Red Day,” to help promote February’s American Heart Month.

Officials at the Burlington County Health Department announced it will join in the efforts by wearing red.

“National Wear Red Day is a great opportunity to reach out to women in our community and alert them to their personal risk factors for heart disease,” said Freeholder Mary Ann C. O’Brien in a recent release. “By wearing red on Feb. 4, we can all show our support for women and heart disease awareness.”

On Friday, women and men across the country wear red to unite in the national movement to give women a personal and urgent wake-up call about the risk of heart disease.

The county’s health department’s National Wear Red Day activities are in partnership with The Heart Truth, an awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
