Saturday's CinnaFest Features Seven Cinnaminson Bands

The all-afternoon music fest will showcase the township's finest in Wood Park.

turns into Woodstock this Saturday as seven Cinnaminson bands will perform at the township’s first ever CinnaFest.

Mayor Don Brauckmann thought of the idea last year when booking popular, talented bands for the township’s . Members of two local teen bands asked the mayor to play shows in the park. They played at the and Brauckmann wanted to turn it into something bigger.

“It was so widely attended,” Brauckmann said. “People were cooking food and having a great time. I thought, ‘Wow, this is something I’m missing.’”

Brauckmann brought up the idea of an all-day music festival to the parks and recreation committee who were on board with CinnaFest. The group put out the call for bands for the inaugural event, which will run from noon to 6 p.m. near the gazebo in Wood Park. Seven bands will play half hour, 45-minute or hour-long sets. During band set-ups, there will be acoustic performers.

The township is supplying the stage—through a shared service with Moorestown—and a professional sound engineer will be on hand for all the bands.

“Every band has members that are from town,” Brauckmann said. “There are bands and some that are in their 20s. They all take music very seriously. I think it will give people a nice, entertaining day in the park to see what Cinnaminson is all about.”

Evan Fleming, lead singer of , said he's extremely excited for CinnaFest. His band will close out the show with an hour-long set.

"It's really great to have the town supporting an event like this," Fleming said. "It's a perfect opportunity to play with so many great bands from Cinnaminson. Having played at the park last summer, it's great to be back. It should be a very fun-filled day packed with lots of talent."

Fleming added that he's expecting a great turnout for all of the bands and acoustic acts performing.

Brauckmann said he’s not sure of what the turnout will be—could be 100 fans, could be 500. But this week, he met with , and EMS, “so we will be prepared for anything,” he said.

Members of the Drama Club will be selling refreshments as a fundraiser at the . Concert-goers can bring coolers, but alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the park.

Brauckmann is hoping to recreate the festival-like atmosphere of the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden or the stage along Cooper River in Pennsauken.

“I thought, ‘Let’s give it a shot in Cinnaminson and see if it takes off,’” he said. “Hopefully, it will turn into an annual event.”
