Cinnaminson BOE President: 'There's A Lot Ahead of Us'

Cinnaminson Board of Education President Jean Cohen has served 15 years on the board, but says there's plenty of work yet to do.

Cinnaminson Board of Education President Jean Cohen has seen and accomplished plenty in her 15 years on the board: the reorganization of the district; the hiring of Superintendent Salvatore Illuzzi; the district's numerous achievements in education.

But even with all that behind her, there's a lot more work for Cohen—and the board—to do.

"I enjoy what I'm doing ... There's a lot ahead of us still," said Cohen, as she prepares for a sixth term on the board.

Specifically, she mentioned the long-gestating capital projects—for which the district is still waiting to find out how much money the state is going to grant—and upcoming contract negotiations with the education association.

Of the negotiations, Cohen said, "I hope we can come up with a contract that's fair to the district, and the staff."

She said she's also looking forward to continuing the rollout of the district's "Bring Your Own Technology" program and the implementation of new teacher evaluations.

Cohen, a former president of the Home and School Association, is running unopposed for one of three open seats on the board, alongside incumbents Pam Crepps and Harry Shea.

Polls open at 6 a.m. Nov. 5. Don’t where to vote? Check our handy election primer to find out (check the bottom of the article for voting districts and corresponding polling places).
