Bancroft Presents the Clarence York Lecture Series: Dementia and Alzheimer's

Bancroft, a leading provider of programs and supports for children and adults with autism, acquired brain injuries, and varied intellectual and developmental disabilities, will present the latest installment in its biannualClarence York Lecture Series, Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Zaven Khachaturian, Ph.D., president of the Campaign to Prevent Alzheimer’s disease by 2020 Inc., will deliver the featured presentation, a review the history of dementia and Alzheimer’s research in the United States during the last three decades. Khachaturian’s aim is to outline the magnitude and complexity of the public health problem from the economic, social, and psychological perspectives, as well as the scientific challenges that must be surmounted. The lecture will focus on dramatic advances in understanding the issue and outline a positive vision for future actions and initiatives to conquer this devastating disease.

Khachaturian is also a senior science adviser to the Alzheimer’s Association and the editor-in-chief of Alzheimer’s & DementiaThe Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association. Previously, he served as director of the Office of Alzheimer’s Disease, responsible for coordinating all Alzheimer’s disease-related activities across the National Institutes of Health, as well as the associate director for the Neuroscience and Neuropsychology of Aging Program at the National Institute on Aging/ National Institutes of Health. In these positions, Khachaturian was responsible for planning, developing and administering major national research programs on Alzheimer’s disease and brain aging.

The Clarence York Lecture Series is presented by Bancroft, a leading service provider for people with autism, acquired brain injuries, and varied intellectual or intellectual and developmental disabilities. Now in its fifth year, the series is dedicated to enriching and expanding program innovation and excellence. Held twice annually, the series honors Clarence N. York, Ed.D., a renowned pioneer in education and advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities, and a former president of Bancroft. The series is funded by a bequest from Charlotte Taylor, a longtime Bancroft supporter.
