Gain The Competitive Edge is a training clinic for athletes who
want to be mentally prepared to perform at a higher level and play their
best game
. You will learn a series of mental skills that can keep
you one step ahead of the competition such as asessing your strengths,
asking the right questions, and staying in the moment. These skills will
give you a more positive, productive and proactive mindset by providing
a greater sense of clarity, composure and confidence throughout your
season.

2nd Session  

Skill # 1: Serve – How can I serve my team?
Skill #2: Act The Part – How do I act as an exceptional player?
Skill #3: X-Factor – What are my positive expectations about myself as a player?
Skill #4: Know Your Destination – What are my short-term and long-term goals?
Skill #5: Reframe – How do I take a negative experience and turn into a positive?
Skill #6: Anchor – What word, phrase or image keeps me calm and composed?
Skill #7: Mark Your Territory – How do I mentally prepare myself to enter the game?
Skill #8: Two Step – What do I say to myself as I step onto the field or court to play?
Skill #9: Be Grateful – What am I grateful for?
Skill #10: Nailing It – How do I focus myself in a game?
Skill #11: Breathe – Why do I take a deep breath?

With
more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field as a social
worker, case manager, and counselor, Anthony Lanzillo took his
knowledge and applied it to athletics in 2012 when he began developing
mental skills materials for athletes in middle school lacrosse and
football. The purpose: to help athletes make improvements by reaching
their mental peak. Over the past several years, he has developed mental
skills materials and training for many athletic programs such as the
South Jersey United Lacrosse Club and KBD LAX training program.

He
is currently busy working with the sport management program at the
University of Central Florida to develop a pilot project for high school
athletic directors. You can check out some of his writings at the
