This past weekend The Washington Post Magazine published a story riddled with errors and misrepresentations of cats and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)—and those who advocate on behalf of outdoor community cats. That means you and me.

Two groups that vehemently oppose this lifesaving program were provided ample space to voice their views, but cat advocates were narrowly and incorrectly represented.

This article completely missed the mark. It dismisses our national movement for humane policies and misrepresents the true landscape of TNR, both on the local and national level. Worse—it misrepresents our morals and values as a society. We know that the majority of Americans want cats protected. There is only a small minority who support antiquated policies and want healthy cats to be killed with your tax dollars, and who don’t carry our American values of compassion and protection. It is crucial that we make ourselves heard, because lives are at stake.

Sign the petition urging The Washington Post to publish an op-ed by Alley Cat Allies that accurately depicts our movement and the widespread support for Trap-Neuter-Return.

Nationwide, there has been great success implementing TNR programs, including Washington Humane Society’s city-supported program detailed in the article. The verdict is in: TNR is mainstream. But some communities and political leaders still need to be influenced to do the right thing and protect cats. It’s important that these audiences hear us—and hear what our compassionate society really wants: lifesaving programs.

Join me in urging The Washington Post to set the record straight.

Sincerely,

Becky Robinson

P.S. Please forward this to your compassionate friends and family. Ask them to join you in speaking up for humane policies for cats!=
