Evangers Canned Pet Food - SILENT RECALL? RUSTED CANS?

Hello, Patch Pet Lovers!

PET FOOD NEWS... can't call it a recall YET, but not one flavor is available.

Once again I bring you information from Susan Thixton,  TruthaboutPetFood.com...

Evangers Canned Pet Food

Posted by Susan Thixton on October 11, 2013 at 12:13 pm

One of you very attentive pet food consumers out there alerted me to a possible concern with Evangers Can Pet Food.  It was shared that PetFoodDirect.com was ‘out of stock’ of every variety of Evangers Pet Food can.  Here’s what PetFoodDirect.com and Evangers Pet Food told me.

When a pet food is suddenly and silently pulled from store shelves (this time from an online store shelf), pet food consumers get alarmed – and rightfully so.  Far too often in the past this quiet pull from store shelves becomes what we call a ‘Silent Recall’; a food the manufacturer knows has a problem but doesn’t officially recall.

A call to PetFoodDirect.com – Emily told me “we received them rusty”.  The cans had rusty lids.  When this was reported to Evangers (PetFoodDirect.com stated this was approximately 3 to 4 weeks ago), Evangers asked for the food to be returned to them.  I asked if PetFoodDirect.com had any reports of sick pets from this food, she stated not that she was aware of.

A call to Evangers Pet Food I was told that it was standard procedure for Evangers to offer a refund to anyone not happy with one of their foods.  I was assured there was no problem with the pet food and that this was not a Silent Recall.  I shared that PetFoodDirect.com certainly thought there was a problem – and rust on can lids sounded like a problem to me.  Again, I was told there was no problem with the pet food and quality control would prevent any cans that did not meet Evangers standards to leave the plant.  But…again, PetFoodDirect.com did send back their inventory they stated was due to rusty lids.  So, I asked Evangers what happened to the foods that PetFoodDirect.com returned?  They said they will investigate and return my call with this information.

A sales representative for Evangers told an independent pet store owner that ‘the canning process had a sealer problem that allowed rust to form.’  However Evangers did not mention any type of sealer problem to me when they were given the opportunity to.

As I told Evangers Pet Food, all consumers want is the truth.  If there is a problem, just tell us – then tell us how you are going to fix the problem so it won’t happen again.

If any more information is learned of this, I will post it.

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,
